Hello,
I want to do a shorty A2 and since I have this Armalite 16" carbine I never shoot I figured I would just form 1 it and save some cash.

I own a Gemtech Halo and it's really front heavy on a 16" rifle.

I already have 10.2" DD MK18 and RRA 10.5" 9mm rifles.
What would you do?
A car-15 type build? maybe just a 14.5" M-4?
Thanks

Get it cut to 14.5/14.7 with a perm muzzle device, get a CAR stock and do a BHD build.   Paint it, get some old surefire light and mount.  Etc etc.....  Super nice.  There's a whole thread on a somolia / bhd builds you can get ideas from.

That would be my suggestion.  Seems like you are covered for SBR's.

I agree, but you don't have to paint it just in case down the road you'd like to switch it up and build it into something else.

I like that idea.
I guess I really just want a SBR to leave the halo on full time.

Well that would be cool too.    You could still do a somalia build with that.  I'm not sure how typical it was and if your can looks to "new" to be that era.  But of course in the movie BHD they show DELTA sniper Gordon with a can on his A2 carbine.  But I think in real life he actually had a 723.  I really don't know if cans were used back then, but I would think they could've been.

Did the paper form 1 today and I put down 11.5" for the barrel.
I really want a Colt Commando look and it seems they were made with A1 and A2 sights.
I can do a BHD build while I wait for the stamp since I have already started gathering parts

That'll be a really sweet set up.

I came in to say you should do an 11.5" barrel with that A2 upper.  You're about two months ahead of me.

You'll like it.  After focusing on an AR-10 and some AKs the past couple of years, putting my 11.5" together was fun.  I forgot how light ARs can be when you keep them basic.  I want to say mine is around 6.5 pounds loaded and it still comes in under 8 pounds when I put an SDN-6 on the end.

Can't see the links for some reason.
ETA:  I can see them now.

I would do the 14.7" 727 build.  Get a reflex can made with Titanium if you want suppressed and lightweight, with very minimal OAL change in the weapon.

I just got a 11.5" barrel in trade. Its a heavy barrel though

I dont have a spare a2 upper so I may just do an a4 with carry handle for now.

I'd love to have your carbine... so I could strip it of it's upper and put it on my 20" A4 with A2 everything, and then take the flat top receiver and put it on the carbine lol.

3 months later I finally found an 11.5" DD CHF FS barrel from Adco today.

I panicked a little with 41F and ended up filing a form 1 for a Nodak spud A2 lower for a 727 build.
Now I need to find a proper 14.5" barrel for the 727.
The struggle is real.. It never ends

This is the barrel I went with. FSB is not "F" marked. I used it on my 723 clone.

Also, Bushmaster barrels don't have M4 cuts and use non "F" marked FSB's. 1/9 rifling though.

I thought it was an early aimpoint, (3000 or 5000) but now that you ask, I'm not so sure.

The DSA barrel shoots really well.
I need to re-zero it now that I have the MGW scope base.
The new base has is relieved on the left side for the battery compartment on the Aimpoint 2000

Yeppers, Aimpoint 2000.
I got lucky on this one. It was on a .22 pistol since new, so not beat up.
It came with the original Aimpoint rings, polarizing filter, and lense covers.
There are two versions, a short (mine) and a longer one.

Here's the mount if anybody plans on using a 2000:
I got it from Brownells.

But you lost street cred with cloners everywhere else.  LOL.  Just kidding.  It's a great set up and the mount is totally retro looking.  I remember when the old Bushmaster catalogs had some like that in there.  I have an ARMS #2 and it looks downright modern compared to that one.

The ARMS #2, I had one, a copy of it, until I could find a retro style mount like the MGW.
MGW didn't even show them on their website. I happened to do a search and it popped up on Brownells and they actually had them in stock..
