Hey there, have built plenty of flat tops, but for some reason never a A2 upper ..So im after , what i have wanted to do for a while..

A2 upper with FSB 16" barrel..carbine, middy, mock dissy..not totally sure..or care too much..i think... just looking for a decent barrel.

Which leads to part 2, does this setup (16" barrel) need a A2 fsb ?

So where to look for a cheapish barrel like i mentioned and what about the fsb?

I've been told a F marked will work for A2 uppers.  Windham actually has complete barrels with A2 FSBs, for about 2-250$, iirc

A F marked FSB will work, I've done the same type build 4 times now. Only thing is the front sight might be lower in the tower than some prefer. But you can always just buy the longer front sight post. Me, I just shoot the snot out of it till someone offers to buy it. Have yet to keep one cause people like the simplistic look of the rifle

thanks, thinking of making this a A2 middy upper, gonna order that dpms A2 upper i think from cdnn..50 bux unless anyone has seen better?

Also what about the barrel?  not sure on the feedramp deal,? like i said played with a dozen or so flat top builds but no a2's yet..

The DPMS A2 upper doesn't have feed ramps cut but that won't be a problem. For barrel I'd probably go with this one. Kind of pricey but worth the money IMHO.

If it were me, I'd keep tabs on the EE. Sometes nice barrels with low round counts come up. Its how I got my 16" BCM M4 barrel for $140 (below 1k round count, seller wanted quick sale), 16" DTI 1/7 M4 barrel for $102.50, PSA 16" M4 barrel $135, Armalite middy 16" barrel for $125, and a few others. All had below 1k round counts, had F marked FSBs, and half of them went on builds using A2 uppers. I was going through a phase where I wanted them in different styles.

Those are ridiculously cheap.  I think I've found a barrel for my 727 project.  Any reviews?

You could start out with something like this, Palmetto State Armory, Barreled Upper with a Cold Hammer Forged Barrel, and either add a nice A3 Carry Handle,

OR get a nice A2 Upper and swap the Upper's.  These PSA CHF Barreled Upper's are a GREAT place to start.  And with a CH & BCG for $420, it's not a bad price either.

I got one of their 16" CHF Barreled Mid-Length Upper, and swapped out the Upper with an FN A2 Upper, and my Lower has a nice A1 type "E" stock, so I have a Mini A2.

It shoots and handles real nice.  It's overall length is 34.5".  It has never given me any problems what-so-ever.

If you don't want a chrome lined barrel and prefer Melonite you can get one of these complete for around 200 to 220 bux.
They are a sister company of Aero Precision

BTW, I bought 2 of those uppers. Everywhere I looked, A1's were 175 to 250 bux and the A2's wasn't any better.

Mine is not exactly an A2 middy but is a middy.  Shown here with my FN M16A2 clone.  The Middy is a PSA CHF/CL upper with GI carry handle on a PSA lower with an A1 stock.  It is amazing how proportional it looks with the M16A2 clone.

I spent the coin and purchased a 1/2 x 1/2 national match rear sight and a blackhawk same plane A2 aperture. This way I can zero at 100 yards and work our ranges with my favorite loadings.
