I'm looking to get an 18 inch barrel to replace a 16 incher in a parts gun. It will have a full float rail. What would you go with? I will probably spring for a match bolt too. I shoot to 500 yards on occasion, usually just 100. Range toy but I want accurate and still shoot decent groups when it gets hot. I will shoot suppressed a lot too. 55 grain and heavier 223.

Green Mountain doesn't make 18" 5.56 AR barrels.

FN makes the best 18" barrel in terms of longevity and barrel life due to the use of M249 SAW barrel blanks.  Rifle gear sells them for the cheapest I believe.  If I was picking a barrel with accuracy in mind as my first priority, I would go with Criterian's 18" rifle length hybrid profile barrel.  Can't get much more accurate than criterian, and the barrel is still chrome lined for decent longevity and durability vs. a traditional match stainless.

Midlength gas systems on 18" barrels are less than optimal, esp for an iron sighted centric rifle like an A2.  Also, it is a heavy profile.

I bought an eighteen inch Noveske "lightweight" (more of a medium weight) barrel for $350.00 on the EE here and shoot at 500 yds pretty regularly. Sub 5" groups are easy if the wind behaves and I'm doing everything right. Can't go too far wrong with a Noveske barrel for your needs...

...or ARP, both are top-notch and not expensive.
