I have recently traded for this A2 upper, and was wondering if anyone is familiar with these forge codes?

My guess it's an FN upper using Key-hole forging.  It looks like someone had too many beers stamped an F upside down and then tried to re-strike the F over it.

Not trying to high-jack your thread, but I too picked up an unknown A2 upper with shallow feed-ramps on a trade for a brand new RRA LPK that I paid $55 bucks for.  After soaking upper in paint remover overnight and cleaning all the paint residue, I was able to find a "4" stamped above the gas-tube hole.  There's no other proof-marks anywhere on the upper, except for the splintered "A" forge-code.  The last thing I need is to start another project, but this upper is just begging me to build a battle field pick up XM-4 carbine

Pro2ndAm, a $55 LPK for a Colt XM-4 A2 Upper Receiver, I think you got the better end of that trade.

It's just begging to be built.......

OP- That's a Cerro Forge (keyhole) with a crappy F (FNMI) You got yourself a great FN A2 upper but the F is a little tweaked. My favorite A2 uppers are those F marked ones like in your picture.

As hipshot said, keyhole is Cerro forge. And the other forge mark i'm not sure but if he says FN then I believe it.

It's actually just a F but that's the worst stamping I've ever seen on a FN upper. I wonder if it was accidently doubled, the F that is or it's damage that occurred when it was serving it's time in the .mil and someone hit it with Alumiblack.

Agreed. It looks like it got stamped once the right way with the F then again but upside down right on top of it. Very strange forge mark lol But keyhole is most definitely Cerro forge. I have a Cerro upper and lower (m4 tho)

You lucky SOB, that's the A2 equivalent of finding an Early XM16E1 upper with rebated port door line. You have a Colt XM4 A2 upper receiver. Splinter A is Anchor Harvey. I'll trade you a Colt LPK for it.....

LOL.........Well guess what guys.
I too recently traded for a splintered A......A2 upper receiver.  After examining it again, I found that it also has shallow feed-ramps!  But as you can see from the pictures I just took with my cell phone (sorry about the quality) mine has a "Y" in a circle stamped just above the gas tube port.........and it also has a "4" stamped on the backside of the rear locking lug?  Not sure what the proper term for that part of the receiver is.  So what is this one?

Here are some pictures.

Let me just say............trying to hold a flashlight to illuminate the inside of the receiver........and the cell phone to take the picture........while holding the receiver.......made taking these last two photos sort of like a circus act.....lol

I've seen a "4" stamp on the rear lug before, but not the "Y" inside a circle on top of the gas-tube hole.  Is it me or the ramps looks raw (unanodized)?  I'm thinking someone could have re-worked the shallow ramps so the specs are closer to the modern-day M4 ramps.  I checked the ramps on my XM-4 A2 upper and it's very shallow, just like the 700's series Colt carbines.
