Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - A2 Build with Heavy match barrel

Hi,

I know technically not an A2 but was hoping you guys could help me out... I am interested in putting a Match type barrel on an A2 but all of the barrels (other than DCM barrels) seem to need a clamped on FSB as opposed to taper pins.  

Any ideas on attaching a standard FSB to such a barrel?

What size is the barrel at the gas port?

All of the barrels I am looking at are .750" at the gas port.

You will want a .750 non F marked front sight base, and you'll either need to drill the barrel and sight for taper pins or send them off to be drilled by a company for taper pins. Somebody told me ADCO does this if youre not comfortable with it

Or use the Armalite clamp on. Google Rifle Gear then search for clamp on front sight. I have one on one of my A2's.

Most match shooters use a set-screw FSB.   They can be found at Fulton.

Thanks for the suggestions!  Looks like I will going with a clamp on.  Good to know there are some options!

Ive used the Armalite clamp on A2 on several builds over the years...........it will let you get a mechanical zero as well
