The Windham  barrel has a triangle handguard cap. It.s a thinner profile than the DPMS lite 20 inch barrel but slightly heaver than the AR15Sport.com  A1 pencil thin barrel

I got one from the last batch he had and it looks great. I'm just finishing up my M16A1 build (for now) need to start collecting the rest of the FN parts for an A2 build.

Just got a FNMI Barrel from Armslist; fantastic looking barrel, bore is new, 04/95 born date. Already mounted on my FN A2 upper

Krieger 1:7.7 twist / dcm contour / wylde chamber for my next two ar15s.  A Satern will be going on my match rifle.  Krieger heavies will be going on my 260 and 308 ars when I have time to start shooting them again.  Cut rifle barrels are worth it if you shoot a lot of precision since they tend to hold their match level accuracy 2x as long.

The wait begins yet again.  This time it's for a JP Precision 22 inch .308 barrel,  1 in 10 twist.

I don't even wanna know how backed up they are.

Windham Weaponry has A2 profile barrels in stock as of yesterday. I ordered one Sunday night and got an email today saying it has been shipped. 1-7 twist, chrome lined, includes A2-style front sight. If you order by tomorrow it's 10% off and free shipping. I wish I could have afforded to get two.

Thanks for posting that.
Jumped on that deal last night and got a tracking number this morning.

If the pre-Cerberus Bushmaster barrels are any indication, this one should be a pretty decent shooter.

I used a DPMS 20 in 1 in 9 twist HBAR with A2 flash hider, Midway had some on closeout for some reason a couple months ago.  I went and picked it up and shot the rifle that evening

There was a complete DPMS 20" A2 on sale here locally.
It was a very tempting deal.
The biggest thing that kept me from jumping on it was the heavy non-chromed barrel.
Undoubtedly it would shoot well but for me this is kind of a nostalgia project so a 1 in 7 twist gov't profile chrome lined A2 barrel is a necessity.

Several buddies from years back were getting into shooting DCM/CMP High Power service rifle matches and were buying Olympic and DPMS uppers with barrels like you got.
Every one of them got great accuracy.

The Windham 20" A2 1/7 chrome lined barrel that I bought a couple of weeks ago turns out to be a shooter.
1-hole 3-shot groups at 25m to zero, hammering the 500m gong at the range with BORING regularity.

Only accurate guns are interesting?  Well, I suppose that's true.

Two...all Colt A2 rifles with factory 1/7 Gov't profile tubes.   Also one Bushie A2 from waaaay back in 1990, with Saco FHBAR, 1/9 chrome.  My A4 has a Gov't 20"  by Sabre ( all Sabre upper)   marked 1/9, but twisted more like 1/7.     My harum treats me good !

I just finished my first AR build a week and a half ago.  20" Shilen SS barrel with Wilde chamber.  I finally made it out to the range yesterday for the first time and it's shooting 100 yard sub MOA right off the bat, and that's with a cheap trigger. Will be interesting to see how it shoots when I get my Geissele SSA trigger this week.

Anyone use one of the Palmetto FN-made "machine gun steel" CHF barrels?  Markings are probably not correct, but the barrel seems like it would be solid.

Is Palmetto selling a 20" barrel with A2 FSB now? I've only seen the 20" from them come on an upper.

Not sure. I'm going to use an A2 style free float tube so it won't matter to me. Even with the incorrect hand guard cap it seems like a good price on the barrel though, even if kind of a PITA to take the sight off to install a correct cap. I'll find out either way next week.

I've got four Bushmaster 20-inch flattop uppers w/ 1:7 twist, gov't profile barrels w/ the non F-marked front sight that are just sitting around. Three are unfired and the fourth has been to the range once for test-fire. If someone wanted to pull off the flattop uppers they'd be perfect for A2 builds. I've contemplated selling them but haven't gotten around to it. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I ordered the Windham Weaponry 1/7 barrel and it looks amazing. I also had a Windham Bushmaster 1/9 barrel years ago and it shot admirably. Hopefully I won't sell this one due to safe overcrowding.

I'm building an A4 DMR type rifle for a specific shoot.  I have plenty of 55 grain projo's and am looking for a barrel.  I wanted a 1x9 twist for that reason.  Would a 1x7 twist (more common and available) degrade the long range accuracy (500 yds) of the 55 gr bullets?  The reason I ask is I wanted to use the Windham 1x7 because of price and availability.  Is chrome lining really necessary on a semi only platform?  Thanks

[#30]
If you are going for absolute accuracy with 55 gr projectiles (and there really are some good ones out there) then 1x9 non-chrome lined either 4150 or stainless (nitride or not) will be your best bet.  Chrome lining is for barrel longevity under adverse conditions.   Nitride is also for the same adverse conditions, but does not have the negative impact on accuracy because of uniformity of the treatment.
The 1x7 twist was a compromise by the military to try to stabilize a specific projectile.  From what I understand the military was all set to go to 1x9 from 1 x12, when one projectile in the inventory (I think it was some sort of tracer/incendiary actually) was found to fail to stabilize.  So they made the twist faster, which actually made the groups open up with a number of loads, but brought all into the specification they were looking for.

Windham barrels look great.

Smooth finish, and good craftsmanship. I haven't shot mine yet though, waiting to do so.

I like the Windham barrel, I don't think the 1:7 twist hurts accuracy with 55 gr bullets. If you really want a 1:9 though, the DPMS 20" HBAR is affordable and has a good reputation for accuracy. The one in the link is 4140 which some don't like but they have a stainless version without FSB sight for $20 more.

I used a CMMG 20" chrome lined 1-7". Got mine on sale some time ago. Not sure if they still carry them or not.

It's been very accurate out to 400m That's the furthest I've shot it.

20" Shilen stainless hbar match grade 1 in 8 twist with Wylde chamber.  Shooting sub MOA out to 600 yards (as long as the wind isn't too strong).

I get around 1.25"-1.5" 10 round groups at 100 with 50 grain american eagle and around 2" or a little more with m193 with a 4x compact pa optic in the handle. These barrels do shoot pretty good for what they are and what they cost, I don't think you'd be disappointed. I can recommend without reservation, not that it means much on here but I'll buy another without hesitation when the time comes.

I hope the colt pencil overrun I got awhile back does as well when I finally get it on something (looking for an a1 stripped upper, if anyone has a lead). If it does I'll definitely be happy with that.

Eta; I haven't gotten to get it to 500 yet but I have had to 300 and it still holds the same level of accuracy 6"-8.5"or so with m193 when I can hold myself together and not let fliers ruin it. Pretty damn respectable for a $230 complete chrome lined combat grade barrel with a half assed shooter at the helm.
