THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Ran out of elevtation with my 6/3 handle last weekend. Zeroed at 300 with knob set at 300...was hitting steel with boring regularity.

Dialed up to go to about 550 yards, at which point the drum had made a full revolution and was back on 6/3. Went about 2-3 clicks above that and I could hardly connect, my spotter was calling a MOA or so low. Scored a couple hits though on the lower end of the silhouette.

Was using reloads, very similar to mk262. Upper is a 20" CMMG gov't contour with a detachable carry handle. My question is if I can diassemble my carry handle sight and use 8/3 parts instead of 6/3?

My first thought would be that I need a rear sight base, elevation knob and the elevation index...would these A2 parts be a direct replacement for my 6/3 carry handle? I was planning on shooting this rifle in a highpower match but at this point, it's not possible to get the elevation I need...would like to take it to 800ish yards as well.

**Forgot to add; has RIBZ setup to allow for 100/200 meter zero.**

The A2 8/3 sight components will not fit inside of a detachable carry handle. The base of the detachable handle is not deep enough to accommodate it. This is why detachable handle sight assemblies have shorter elevation adjustments (6/3 instead of 8/3).

No problem. You can always switch the receiver out for an A2.

You can also have your local machine shop plunge an endmill into the receiver so that 8/3 NM parts will fit in your carry handle. I did this to several uppers I used to use for high power.

I was actually thinking about this...what is the diameter and depth of that cut? Also, do you have position dimensions, IE: how far from a known surface is the center of that spot face located? I take it that you located it in the center of the rail.

Thanks for the info.

I can measure it later, but when I did them I put the stripped carry handle on the upper and used that to set the position of the spotface.

As a suggestion, in case you do not get those measurements you are looking for, simply place the A2 carry handle on the upper with the rear sight assembly removed and mark the center of the hole where the threaded sight shaft goes. From the looks of the picture just use an end mill a little smaller in diameter than the width of the carry handle frame at that point leaving a little metal on each side. Determining the needed depth is easy by just measuring the difference in the length/hieght of a 6/3 and a 8/3 rear sight....<><....:)

Hard work pays off eventually, but procrastination pays off right now. I'll do it later...lol

Guy in my unit borrowed my A4 for a service rifle match. He later told me he was surprised that it wouldn't go more than a couple clicks down.

I didn't realize that there was a difference between the rear sights as I hadn't shot this rifle with a detachable carry handle. Thanks for the info.
Please, call me Joe

I have several carry handles and the distance from the back of the Cary handle varied on each one. I would get the carry handle you plan to use stripped and take that with you to the machine shop. They can pickup the hole location and have it machined the same size or larger than the hole in the carry handle for the elevation screw.

I'll probably have my friend/gunsmith help me out.

Thanks for the help.
