Pencil barrels like that, is the difference in weight between that and a M4 barrel feel like a lot?

All of my M4's have rails optics and lights.  So I can't really comment on the barrel difference but the overall difference is remarkable." />

I was going for a copy of the first rifle I was issued in the Marine Corps, right down to the GI sling and the butt stock cleaning kit.

Just need to get a Bayonet now...

First AR build done-ish, went for the tried and true M16A2 clone.
Del Ton lower and LPK, RRA A2 chrome lined HBAR upper and buttstock.
I wimped out and went for a pre-built upper to dip my toes in the AR-15 swimming pool.
Not a huge fan of the three point sling, have a 2pt replacement on the way.
Blasted 300 or so rounds of mixed .223 and 5.56 out of it, 100% reliable so far!

There's just something about A2's that's hard not to like.  Especially when shooting them.   What kind of ammo did you send through it?

It was mostly just Wolf Gold and American Eagle 55gr. Cheap and easily available stuff.

Manual says about 250 hours so nothing like the ones today but it holds zero and seems to work well enough. Nothing that carrying a few batteries around won't fix!

More modern, improved battery design and production technologies may have increased that figure as well.

Just got my first A2 put together, a midlength. Cheapie $480 truck gun. I ordered the PSA Freedom melonite midlength rifle kit and swapped the barrel assembly onto an A2 receiver. Even built it on a Tapco lower receiver for the full truck gun effect!

Do you like it more with the 20 rounder mag or 30? For how foolish this is (looks) I am often torn.

Dude, There hath be no greater shooting AR in all the earth than a 20" AR.  Especially an A2.  The smooth buttsock on your face, the sproing, the minimal noise and push.  The crisp sights.....

Who cares how it looks.

Well actually I agree with you.  An A2 does look kind of funny with a 20 rounder sticking out.   But despite how they look, I typically use 20's.

Got both of my first A2 builds done this week.

The 16" midlength was built on a Tapco lower, with a PSA LPK, stock and tube came from the EE. Upper built on an unknown brand Cerro forge upper swapped onto a PSA Freedom nitride upper. BCG and CH are also PSA. $480 total into this one.

The 20" rifle was also built on a Tapco lower, with a Aero Precision LPK, A2 stock assembly from Windham Weaponry. Upper built on a Colt receiver, with a Windham Weaponry barrel assembly, Colt CH and Toolcraft BCG.  $650 into this one.

Oh, man, me likey!

My wife's SBR (waiting on approval) will have a 10.5" upper like that, but the upper receiver itself is a flattop. You are seriously tempting me to Form 1 another lower receiver just to do a straight up A2 SBR like yours! That is just so cool looking!

It's definitely fun to ping 6" steel plates at 100 yards offhand using irons; the lack of weight helps a lot. I've thought about adding a light but really like the simplicity of how it is right now. I have a bunch of other go-to rifles for home defense or whatever, so this one doesn't have to do any heavy lifting in that regard.

As Ferris Bueller said, "if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Can I play?

It is just a rimfire... Built to keep company to my NM A2 but I think I'm going to do another upper like this one in .223 Wylde ...

Love the 18" barrel in the A2!

CMMG Lower:
-RRA NM trigger
-A1 Grip
-CAV Arms A1 Stock

WOA Upper:
- Beyer 18" SPR lightweight barrel
- CMMG .22 conversion and collar
- CLE FSB (with a .062 post)
- CLE 1/4 MOA Rear Sight Assembly
- RRA NM Free float tube

It is a tack diver and very reliable

I think I can finally call my A2 finished.  The basic build has been done for a while but it needed a couple things before I could truly call it complete.  Swapped out the horribly gritty trigger for an ALG QMS.  The QMS really is a nice mil-spec style upgrade.  Lubed it with some Geissele trigger grease and it is smooth.  Also added a USGI silent sling and a Colt A2 pistol grip.  The A2 is definitely a keeper and I really think all AR fans/collectors need one in the safe.

Came out super sweet and couldn't agree more with what you said.

Which brings the question, where did you find an actual Colt A2 grip? Had been looking for one not finding it.

To my eyes, they are the sweetest ones. Matte, right size, great plastics. My favorites.

I found the Colt A2 in the EE.  It's a take off from a LE6920.  Definitely agree about the Colt A2 grips, I'm not a huge A2 grip fan but I can actually tolerate the Colt versions.  The random A2 grips in most parts kits don't feel right to me.

It's weird, I had been a huge fan of the A1 for a good while and all of a sudden I like the A2 grip.  I don't know why.  I will say the genuine Colt one does feel a little nicer than the RRA's ones.  Maybe a bit thicker?

Nice rifle though.  Very nice.
