Will paint Colt gray and I'm good to go with my vintage, Colt upper as well. |

Got me a couple of original, unused Nodak Spud A2 lowers. Now I can clone for real.
Will turn them both into Colt grey (best approximation of it) and call it a day. Attached File |

Just bought one of these: (www).brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/barrel-5-56mm-nato-20-1-7-rifle-length-black-sku160000442-105048-201660.aspx
from Brownell's to further my poor man's A2 DCM Delta H-bar build. Been searching for over two years to find an unfired Colt barrel with these specs... and yes, despite the description - it isn't neutered (it does have a bayonet lug). Can't wait to finally complete this build. ETA: Barrel arrived today (Saturday) Pics can be found here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_127/714355_.html&page=1&anc=7464571#i7464571 |

It's sharing my SBR'd McKay lower but once it's pinned it will get it's own McKay lower that I have on hand. I'm thinking about doing one of the older barrel mounted Surefire lights and an Aimpoint 5000 (if I can find one) for that Black Hawk Down look. Furniture is a Colt N1 stock, Colt shiny 6 hole handguards, and an older shiny Colt A2 pistol grip (not pictured). http://i.imgur.com/67ZdDlph.jpg View Quote Go for the BHD ... just be patient on finding those parts. DONT pay top dollar. I myself am still searching for a reasonably priced N1 stock. |

Bumping this great thread with an older picture of mine.
I just got all my webbing from Shitaly (where I used to reside) - as seen in the picture (and much more than that). The A2 was a Bushmaster of sorts - only thing I could find in Shitaly. Sold it a long time ago, now waiting on my Colt vintage upper and Nodak - they are being painted as I type this. Can't wait, Colt Grey! I am essentially done with this project as well.
I have to say, I am impressed by the result: Colt vintage upper, Nodak 'M16A2' lower. Both parts have been cerakoted here in San Diego by Parallax Tactical. I went Cerakote Sniper Gray - seemingly the closest to Colt gray. I think it's a blue-grey but this evening interior lights are certainly hard to interpret. Will take better pictures tomorrow. I reassembled this one myself but the barrel to the upper receiver, which was a first timer for me. Very nice, fun build. The trigger is actually a Geissele 2 stage. A 'grey' Colt A2 had been a dream of mine for a while. It's definitely a blue-grey (Cerakote Sniper Gray) but it also depends on the light.
Very nice effects can be had. Colt - Nodak A2 Clone by SoloDallas, on Flickr Colt - Nodak A2 Clone by SoloDallas, on Flickr Colt - Nodak A2 Clone by SoloDallas, on Flickr Colt - Nodak A2 Clone by SoloDallas, on Flickr |

I wish I had the huge thumbs up emogee solo dallas.
OK, that was overboard, but it looks real good. I don't normally like the cerakote job to look like Colt Grey but that one looks pretty good. |

View Quote In all cases, it was time consuming, concentration-demanding etc. So I 'pulled the trigger' and went for cerakote that I am not crazy about (too much of a modern finish for a classic old fart like me). However, all considered, it's now nice and acceptable. I made sure they'd do it right. It kind of looks like a US Navy grey-bluish as if the Navy had a contract with Colt? |

In case someone is interested, a comparison between original Colt grey (in the background, Colt SP1 upper, Nodak lower) on an A1 clone and the Sniper Gray cerakoted A2 in the foreground.
These pictures were taken indoors and are representative of the true color. The A2 definitely contains a hint of blue as per description of Cerakote Sniper Gray. Sniper Gray VS Colt Grey by SoloDallas, on Flickr Sniper Gray VS Colt Grey by SoloDallas, on Flickr |
