Orders that are up to $100 that qualify ship flat rate. I bought a mix of smalls and paid $4 shipping.

And since this is a tech thread, obligatory pic of my first steps into 20" rifles.

Picked up an F marked FNMI A2 upper receiver for my A2 build.  The whole upper is now all USGI parts.  FNMI receiver and cage code marked barrel, Toolcraft cage code marked bolt carrier and FN MPF bolt.  Just waiting for the group buy A2 lower and this one will be done.

This is what I call gorgeous.

And it's exactly what I am onto - just bought two clean, brand new A2 Nodaks on Gunbroker (lucked out).

Will paint Colt gray and I'm good to go with my vintage, Colt upper as well.

All colt. All correct. Took about 2 years to scrounge all the parts.

I still need to find well worn colt handguards.

Got me a couple of original, unused Nodak Spud A2 lowers. Now I can clone for real.
Will turn them both into Colt grey (best approximation of it) and call it a day.

New to me a2 showed up at my dealer today. Paperwork goes out tomorrow.

I have the upper and the old carbine stock and the upper at least is going to sit on a spare sbr'd S&W lower I've had sitting around.

Gun has the 2 position buffer tube on it and it does look like it was factory staked. The lower is a real a2.

Why is your side sling swivel mounted in the 203 notch and not in the FSB?

I think it was one for a pencil barrel. It does have a colt part number. I took it off when I got the upper home.

The lowers were a special run from a company called Black Creek Precision.  Details are in this thread.

Aw man I see that fun pin above semi ! This is one sweet looking little colt. I love how the old plastic handgaurds/ grips, take on that glossy look from years of solvents and handling.

The locking bar should be reversible ie should have two curved sides (marked A1/A2 IIRC).  Newer bars only have one curved side for M4 barrels.  Just checked the IPB and part is listed as Clamp, Synchro 5340-01-474-2845 or Clamp, Rim Clenching 5340-01-264-6530 depending on version.

Main body has the part number 8448379 and the locking bar has the part 8448376. The bar isn't reversible. When I searched the main part number I found a few threads with people talking about it but not much. Right now the clamp is just sitting on my desk.

Just bought one of these: (www).brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/barrel-5-56mm-nato-20-1-7-rifle-length-black-sku160000442-105048-201660.aspx
from Brownell's to further my poor man's A2 DCM Delta H-bar build. Been searching for over two years to find an unfired Colt barrel with these specs... and yes, despite the description - it isn't neutered (it does have a bayonet lug).

Can't wait to finally complete this build.

ETA: Barrel arrived today (Saturday) Pics can be found here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_127/714355_.html&page=1&anc=7464571#i7464571

I just placed an order with them Friday and did not see that.  I need one of these for the extra BCP A2 Reciever I got.  Glad to here it is not neutered.

Well I have a free shipping code (M6S) I guess it is time to order again...

Started a new 727 build.  Mostly left over parts that I had and a Colt M4 barrel that I got for a good deal due to some finish issues.  I need to send it off to ADCO for a pin and weld (going to go the standard A2 and spacer route) and to have it re-parkerized.  It's sharing my SBR'd McKay lower but once it's pinned it will get it's own McKay lower that I have on hand.  I'm thinking about doing one of the older barrel mounted Surefire lights and an Aimpoint 5000 (if I can find one) for that Black Hawk Down look.  Furniture is a Colt N1 stock, Colt shiny 6 hole handguards, and an older shiny Colt A2 pistol grip (not pictured).

Looks great!
Go for the BHD ... just be patient on finding those parts.  DONT pay top dollar.
I myself am still searching for a reasonably priced N1 stock.

Bumping this great thread with an older picture of mine.
I just got all my webbing from Shitaly (where I used to reside) - as seen in the picture (and much more than that).

The A2 was a Bushmaster of sorts - only thing I could find in Shitaly.
Sold it a long time ago, now waiting on my Colt vintage upper and Nodak - they are being painted as I type this.

Can't wait, Colt Grey!

I am essentially done with this project as well.
I have to say, I am impressed by the result: Colt vintage upper, Nodak 'M16A2' lower.

Both parts have been cerakoted here in San Diego by Parallax Tactical.
I went Cerakote Sniper Gray - seemingly the closest to Colt gray. I think it's a blue-grey but this evening interior lights are certainly hard to interpret. Will take better pictures tomorrow.

I reassembled this one myself but the barrel to the upper receiver, which was a first timer for me. Very nice, fun build.

The trigger is actually a Geissele 2 stage.

A 'grey' Colt A2 had been a dream of mine for a while.

It's definitely a blue-grey (Cerakote Sniper Gray) but it also depends on the light.
Very nice effects can be had.

I wish I had the huge thumbs up emogee solo dallas.

OK, that was overboard, but it looks real good.  I don't normally like the cerakote job to look like Colt Grey but that one looks pretty good.

Thanks brah! It doesn't look like Colt grey in fact and I was resisting it; the alternative here in San Diego was none and I would have had to send it to US anodizing (or get that Norrell) etc.

In all cases, it was time consuming, concentration-demanding etc.
So I 'pulled the trigger' and went for cerakote that I am not crazy about (too much of a modern finish for a classic old fart like me).
However, all considered, it's now nice and acceptable. I made sure they'd do it right.
It kind of looks like a US Navy grey-bluish as if the Navy had a contract with Colt?

Thank you Sir!
That is all original, came with the take off (I believe US .mil or maybe just a SP1) vintage Colt upper.
The Colt upper was actually an original Colt grey (as previously shown in the thread)
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 5:58:26 PM EDT

In case someone is interested, a comparison between original Colt grey (in the background, Colt SP1 upper, Nodak lower) on an A1 clone and the Sniper Gray cerakoted A2 in the foreground.

These pictures were taken indoors and are representative of the true color.

The A2 definitely contains a hint of blue as per description of Cerakote Sniper Gray.
