IIRC, the OPS Inc suppressors were based loosely on the HEL design, but the HEL is not the same suppressor. The mounting for example: the HEL pioneered the collar at the rear, but was threaded for 1/2-28 direct, IIRC which I imagine likely caused problems when fouled with carbon, when trying to break the suppressor loose. The OPS Inc. / Allen Engineering model 12 was an improvement, I'm sure in a number of ways, but they are very similar, and the same sort of slip-over design, which always made sense to me from a length perspective and for providing a large blast chamber at the rear of the can. It's a very popular design in other countries where suppressors are legal.
The Mk4 Mod 0 as a complete weapon system is pretty interesting, and somewhere I have pics of the charging handle, which was the original 'gasbuster and had a clip with rubber wipes on it.' It also pioneered a 'moly' coating to help with salt water resistance, and used not only a drain hole in the stock screw, which became standard on the M16A1, but also had, from what I understand, 1/4 inch holes drilled through the stock and receiver extension to drain water out of the buffer tube quickly. We've all seen receiver extensions with those holes, but I've only seen one stock for sale over the years with holes drilled in it like that, and it was sold before I could buy it. I've seen no good pictures of those holes, so it may be apocryphal. |

Well guys, I come across a rifle yesterday and had to put some money down on it immediately..

Anyways, i think this will get sbr'd, and chopped to 14.5 and set up to run the ops can from Ron. If he'll make a collar for a pencil barrel. Also, does anyone think that selector switch looks a little not original? |

I posted this in the ops/ ae thread but just thought it may be of some relevance here too.
So I lucked out over a year ago and kind of fell into getting an Allen Engineering M4 (not an AEM4). I asked to be put on the list for a special order project in November of 2020 and it is now coming to fruition. Just got the collar in the mail and the can is at my dealer waiting for eform 4s to be back up. I was told 19 cans were made in this run. It is for a 14.5" barrel with carbine gas and FSB. It's direct thread onto the barrel. Here is some info from the email. We test shot one today and the back pressure is significantly less than a AEM5 and the suppression level is greater, you will be very pleased with these. I attached a picture of the M4/Gordon suppressor next to a AEM5 (spray painted), and a couple pics of it mocked up with a collar (no sleeve insert). Thank you for your patience with this, I am happy we were able to get this project done and include you on it. Project Details: Suppressors have reverse knurling like the original did. These are the same "M4" model as the original M4/Gordon suppressorsThe serial number prefix is the same as the original M4/Gordon suppressors, "MBS" The serial number range starts 100 numbers after the last of the original M4/Gordon suppressors. The bottom line of text on the suppressor is the same as the original suppressors, "M4 CAL 5.56 MBS 84XX" We hand stamped the original OPS INC Cage code into the back side of the collar We hand stamped the serial number of each suppressor to a matched collar We hand stamped a serial number for each collar on the back of the collar. These are "A" series and the last two numbers match the last two of your suppressor. The previous batch of collars we made and let D Wilson MFG resale were "B, C, & D" series with no OPS INC cage code.    I can't give credit for the pics. I can't decide if I want to rebuild my gordon clone or do something like this:  When I initially asked about getting on the list I was asked not to share about it but just got the go ahead so hope you all enjoy. |

Because Ron is backlogged like crazy with aem5's, about 25% (my guess) is do to the Gordon clone craze recently. People knowing that the actual correct suppressor being made would only further the backlog. Keeping it somewhat secret enabled him to do a small run and not create more backlog. He's going to do another run and already got bombarded with people trying to get on the list, myself included. @k31user |

Just got the collar in the mail and the can is at my dealer waiting for eform 4s to be back up. I was told 19 cans were made in this run. It is for a 14.5" barrel with carbine gas and FSB. It's direct thread onto the barrel. I don’t know if he still does though. If you have a competent machine shop nearby, using the measurements on the brake/collar relationship, you could probably have one made. |
