@RTUtah Here you go....
First pic shows my builds and a couple extra parts. The bolts on the right show the short bolts that came with the cheaper mount. I had to do some slight dremeling on that to get it to fit. Thanks to your question, I swapped to the more original Weaver mount you see on the rifle now. Its the one with the missing bolt in the mount to show comparisons between the standard and long bolts I needed. Top rifle in 1st pic, bottom rifle in 2nd pic.

$20 mount I used as a stand in with custom work.

Original stand in mount, its much lighter and just feels cheaper on the right.

This is the one I swapped today. The pressure pad cable is much shorter than my other one so I'm not leaving the pad there.

Light mount position and pressure pad is mounted on top of the handguard and a MUCH nicer position.

Minimum bolt length you will need to mount the light with the bracket inside the FSP. In reality it could be a couple turns longer.

Okay gents, it's as finished as I can make it for the moment. Got off the phone with Trijicon today; turns out they have zero ACOGs on their shelves so the TA47 I ordered six weeks ago won't ship until sometime in June. And in other news, ARMS Inc. brought the classic #16A mount back so there's a possibility I might pick up an Aimpoint and #16A for the time being. I definitely want an ACOG in my stable but if I kinda like the idea of having both to swap out, because this is one handy little carbine.

So without further delay, I give you my version of a late '80s, early '90s Delta CAR-15. This is a blend between the CAR-15 featured in the old BF1942 video game mod Desert Combat, and what we know was carried in Mogadishu by TF Ranger. And for the record, I also have the AEM5 suppressor, but having had a 12.5" carbine setup previously using it, I decided I wanted something a little shorter and lighter while still maintaining a somewhat plausible concept clone based on the time-period.

In this photo, you can see where I shaved the bayonet lug. I also had to space the Weaver barrel mount down a little using a short piece of stainless round stock. I also replaced the socket-head screws (size 8/32" x 1.25") to mount it to the FSB like this.

@RTUtah what in the actual fuck. Close the thread down, I guess we reached nirvana. Thanks, bro.

That's awesome.

Edit: also thanks for the heads up on the A.R.M.S. #16A. Working on my second and might just clone this!

@CMCctx, thanks dude. I had a #16A in my cart earlier today but held back, lol. Probably end up getting one just in case they dry up again.

Hey fellas I foolishly sold my clone a few months back, anyone have a lead on just a C7 upper? There’s a few new production models out there but I’m reading some tolerance issues seem to be present. I’ve been on the EE non stop and haven’t had much luck. Looking for a Colt if possible and yes I posted a WTB.

Picked this light up, and the pad is super not reliable. Is there any how tos on how to fix it? Most I see seem to be falling apart on the pad itself as well as the connection to the cap.

I'd probably cut the heatshrink off it and then look at the board, maybe clean it up a bit, and then re-heatshrink it.

Those of you who made a clone of the Gary Gordon Carbine using the AEM5, who did you have do the barrel work?

Also, any recommendations for an A2 upper brand?

Send it to D. Wilson; he's an active forum member here but I forget his handle. Or you can use a 12.5" barrel with the M4 collar but it won't quite be snug up to the FSB. I had that for an old setup and remember it being juuust a tad longer than ideal.

Does anyone make/repro the old style collar? There are other hindrances, but that's my main hangup from chopping mine down.

Had bring a gun to work Friday and my buddy brought his SP5. It gave more BHD feels. Still need an aimpoint 5000, swap out the mag button and I think it’ll be about done.

Does that iwc mount place the light parallel to the ore or is it angled like the handguard is?

I was told that it was an arsenal refinish. Makes sense, you can still see some anodizing on the other side, though not much at all.

I've been made fun of for "faking" patina, like i could fake that hahaha

Have an 80% ready to go. Ordered stencils to put on proper 727 Colt markings.  Just need to get it reprofiled first for the A1 look I am after. Have a Colt A2 upper with big head assist in waiting, along with an Aimpoint 5000 and SureFire 6P.

I never looked at this thread until today, in one of the rangers pictures in the third post i think i saw my best friend Joe.   I knew he was in Somalia as part of Operation Gothic Serpent.  He has talked to me about it, he had a bad ptsd night one night and we talked about it for hours.   I sent him the pic and he confirmed it was him in the pic.   Amazing the things i can find on arf.

Any one have any ideas where to find an innertube section of the correct size for two Ranger bands? My gunsmith is currently fixing my 727 upper to remove the VLTOR some fool had P&Wed on an actual period Colt barrel, which the correct barrel markings as well, and install an A2 flash suppressor with a .02" thick spacer for legality.

Just pick up a mountain bike innertube and go to work with the scissors.  There is enough material there for a wide margin of error.

Since I've sorta ticked most of the other major AR cloner-boner boxes, figured it's time for a good 'ol gothic serpent build. Colt A2 Gov't Carbine lower is in the mail, and I just happened to find these fellas rolling around in a box over the weekend. Were they using the ARMS weaver mounts at that point or was it a different make? The crocked-ish stamping on a few of them make me think they're pretty early, whereas the machine engraved one is probably a bit later. I really only need one of these if I wind up using it for the build, so I'll throw the rest on the EE if anyone wants them.

I am having a spacer made up and going with an A2 flash suppressor for my RO 727 upper. I have an Aimpoint 5000 and a Colt 14.5" barrel with period markings going on the upper. It will have a peel washer when all is done.

For the lower, I need to get rid of the A2 reinforcements. Any guide for removing said lower reinforcements? I also need the exact dimensions for an A1 type lower. The proper markings were previously done.

Well, it started with those ARMS mounts, but I guess it's time to do a BHD build now. Was it more likely that they used a 660 or an older Laser Products 6P like what I've got?

When I zoom in on those, it looks to me like they have them mounted with 1" Leupold Vertical split rings to pieces of weaver/pic rail bolted to the bottom handguard, and flip-caps (probably IR filters?) 100mph Taped to the bezel.

The cap on the end looks to be pushbutton.

If they had 660's I would think they would have gotten them with barrel mounts, and tape switches included. Also I would guess the flip caps would be a lot larger than they are.

Here's mine, though I made the mistake of selling my 5000 and U07 Tape Switch.

Here's a pic of Eversmann's 727 (XM4? 720?) with a 660 with no red dot
