This .22 dedicated 723ish build is still my 93 stand in Somalia carbine.  I said for now because I have an AEM5 suppressor currently jailed and debating tearing this 22 apart and migrating the C7 upper over to the 12.5 barrel I bought to use with the AEM5.  For the short term planning to build up a retroish pistol using a brace but scrolling back through some of the fantastic pictures in this thread I'm inspired to do it a bit more proper.  Maybe its time to finally file a form 1 for a lower.

I have some accessories in the EE now. 5000, Leupold rings, 6P, 660, U07 switch.

Something I just noticed looking at the picture - none of these guys are running their 660s on a barrel mount like everyone seems to run. IIRC, someone (Promag, I believe) used to make rail sections that would bolt into the vent holes of AR handguards. I wonder if they were using something like that.

100% better light activation with it at the 1300 position vs 0600 where I had it. I need to trim down the mount to go under the FSB, but this will do for now. Still need some skinny handguards

In progress on my build, where are you guys sourcing lights these days? Waiting for one to pop up on eBay or the EE?

@Will816 I looked for a couple of minutes and found a legacy light for you

it's a special order switch, but it's legit

the pressure switch is a gen 1 momentary/constant, very rare and a steal at that price

legacy 3P, 6P, and 9P

you'll have to source your own switches

legacy 6P

Managed to snag a police trade in 723 upper this weekend. Has the Colt markings as well. Got it for under $1k which during these times of exorbitant prices, I’m very happy with.

Getting close to a non-correct Gothic Serpent build. Thanks to everyone who reached out. Unfortunately I had an A1 upper and CAR stock get lost in the mail, so the search is still on (although my dad has an A2 upper that he may be interested in parting with).

I think this is just something that I’ll work on and refine over time, ultimately with the intent of getting a more correct light and optic. I also have an AEM5, so appropriate collars and muzzle devices would be a big plus down the road.

I'm not 100% positive on the receiver color. I want to say black ano was around then, but there are much smarter folks in here than I.

Aimpoint 5000 2x, not correct. But there are many "close enough" optics in here that you probably won't catch any hell for it.

[Last Edit: Soberglitch] [#23]
If it is a special forces build the 1x 5000 is the only correct option. Some of the non-SF/Delta would still have 3000, irons, or maybe even 2000. Movie correct would have a CompM or M2

Edit: obviously SF guys would have irons as well. They would just have priority on the 5000 because it was a relatively new optic

I apologize if it’s been covered, but there’s a lot to sift through. I have one of the old Surefire tape switches that I’d like to utilize , it looks like this:

What kind of light and tail cap should I be looking for?

What light are you running? I’m assuming it’s a 660

Ideal would be the Surefire UM00 but that is a very difficult find. Your best bet is the Surefire XM00

Edit: Didn’t see you were asking what light too. Get a Surefire 660. You can also get a 6P and do the tailcap mod seen here: Tailcap Mod

Thanks.

I did a bit of poking around, and it seems like a correct light is going to be pretty expensive. I was really hoping to have about $150 in it.

The setup I have, which is a couple posts above, is a 660 with the barrel clamp, old permanently attached pressure switch and a malkoff led. $200 for the light setup and around $50 for the led.

I’d recommend you look on eBay for a 6P. They can still be had for around $50 with the push button and then you can either modify that or find the correct tailcap

Project with a spare handguard half I had...NOS Surefire modded with a Malkoff LED module and a more recent production Surefire tape switch assembly. M1913 rail section from Ergo/Falcon Industries.

Originally it was pinned upper and I just chopped it to a length that looked decent. I wish it was ported, but also noticed the one from the movie isn't.

I assume you're pinning the FH? That'll look great. I prefer the spacer and A2 over the 14.7" for some reason.

Buddy of mine sent me a YT vid of the old BF1942 mod Desert Combat. We used to play that game like madmen back in the day! Saw that old CAR-15 with C4 and smokes, and Basra Nights map, and I was having flashbacks, baby.

Gonna build something basically like that setup: 10.5" C7 upper, NT4, and either a TA33 or TA50 ACOG.

For my GAU-5/a/a clone, I sprayed a set of DSA CAR handguards (which have 6-holes) with some floor polish through an airbrush to make them shiny.  Ghetto af, but it worked.

I fucking LOVED that game, bro. Taught me everything I know.

Nixing the TA33; likely going with the TA50 horseshoe.

I've got 7-holed guards laying around. I'm gonna spray-paint this thing anyways so the finish ain't as important as the number of holes. Honestly, I might just use the ones I got and throw a Ranger band on the end of the guards to hide those last few holes.

Here's the link to the DS Arms hand guards. If you're going to paint I think these would work for you.

How are we setting our Aimpoints up in carry-handles these days? Not sure I can stomach a $1K ACOG for this build, the classic ARMS #16A mounts have been discontinued, so the only viable path seems to be the ARMS #2 with a low ring like the old Aimpoint SRW-L mount. Of course, those seem to be unicorn as well.

Sooo... what's everyone doing?
