I've used this rifle in the past just to blast with at the range, normally with 55gr Wolf Gold, with ok accuracy. I'm thinking of using this rifle for coyote hunting. I do plan on buying several boxes to try at the range when I go, but what is a good starting point, as far as bullet weight, for a 1:8 twist barrel? I know all barrels differ, and I will be using strictly factory ammo, as I do not hand load. I'd say 100 to maybe 200 yds max, is the shots I'll be doing. Thanks for any guidance.

50-70 should be perfect. 40-50 and 70-80 should work with varying stability

Mine is grouping ten shots at just under 1 moa with Asym 77gr OTM tactical match, five shot groups are under .75"

Thats from a bipod, ten shots. I need to get on a bag a shoot some more, would suspect tighter groups.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to pick up a mixed bag of ammo and set aside a few hours to find the best.

Who told you that?

77gr is absolutly stable in a 1/8 and lighter weight slugs aren't an issue.  Why do you think so many match barrels are 1/8?

OP:  I run 77gr handloads in my PWS and it's sub MOA.

A 1:8 barrel will shoot 50gr well.
It will not shoot 55gr very well due to the quality of most 55gr ammo.

50gr Vmax was grouping at about .75" this weekend.....in the rain

Well, it didn't like the 55's too much. I had okay groups. The 62's produced better groups. I'll have to try the heavier stuff next. I would imagine it will like them better. Thanks everyone.

It would be considerably more helpful if you indicated what type of slugs we're talking about.

There's a HUGE difference between a 55gr V-Max and shit-tastic 55gr Winchester FMJ.

Most 62gr ammo is low grade dog food. Mot very stable due to the steel pins.

QUALITY ammo, is much better. My PWS really likes the 69-77gr ammo the best.
Good brands of ammo will still shoot 1 MOA

I bought one of the PWS 16" DI barrels for a build. Haven't shot it yet. I take it you guys are enjoying yours?

This.  If you're not specifying which type of factory load you're using, it's impossible to answer much of anything.

Not even necessarily that.  M855/SS109, yes.  There are other types of .224 62gr projos, though.

Details matter.
