just purchased an eagle arms ar 15,  .223/5.56 wylde   anyway what i was wanting to know is how do i tell if it is a piston type, it's brand new from the factory

Doesn't look like it. The simplest way to tell is to look in your upper. See that tube looking thing? If it's solid rather than tubular than its a piston. Tubular is DI. Also look at your bolt carrier. If the topmost portion isn't just a solid slab to where the upper rod would hit to cycle the action, then it's not a piston. If the carrier has a "gas key", ie it looks like something may go inside the took hooky portion of the carrier than its DI.

You could look at the Bolt Carrier if it had a gas key it is DI (ahrion posted while I was looking up Eagle Arms models & typing reply; sorry for posting same info.)
