Getting the bug to build a .308 framed AR to replicate the form factor I liked about my FAL (piston, non-reciprocating side charging handle) - but with better accuracy and the customizability afforded by the AR market.

Are there any reputable manufacturers who offer gas piston kits as a stand alone item? Or, by the very nature of the design, do all gas piston systems require a specific - and often proprietary - bolt carrier and upper reciever?

I'm ignorant and uneducated on the gas piston setup. Would appreciate your insight.

as far as i know their isn't a retrofit kit available at all.

adams arms just recently announced a .308 complete rifle, but as far as building with a piston goes i'm unaware of any options.
