Seen one for sale, seems like a good price, unfired, comes with Troy Industries folding M4 sight and folding dioptic aperture sight. Also comes with rail attachments.
Barrel is not threaded and stock is pinned.
I live in a free state so can have these dreaded options.
Stock isn't hard to do at all, have done that before on a ban compliant AR,what about threading the barrel?
Not sure if anyone local has the capability, but what would be the rough cost for doing so?

Looking at about $150 plus postage

Thanks, that helps in deciding if it is worth buying this or go with a new one.
LGS has the 556E for just under $1000 out the door, but I believe it doesn't have any backup sights.

You can find a Colt $6920 for less than $1k these days.
Unless you specifically want a Ruger or a piston gun, the Colt is a heJJ of a lot higher quality carbine

I like gas piston rifles.
The rifle I am looking at is under $750,I wouldn't pay $1000 for the 556E personally,as you then need to buy sights etc.

But $750 with the extras seems okay.

Threading a barrel is easy peasy. Any machine shop or a full service gunsmith should be able to accomplish this provided you give them the correct thread pattern information.
15 minutes start to finish in a lathe including set-up.
$100 bucks.

I paid to have my ny state compliant sr556e done the way you asked.

Once I moved from commie ny to Fl, it cost me 120$ to have the barrel threaded and that was including the $9 a2 comp.

Was well worth it imo.

Look in the Equipment Exchange for Ruger Rifles ... There are some good ones there.

Colt is NOT better than a Ruger.  Possibly just as good but not better.

IMHO colt is a downgrade for me since they don't make any midlength gas rifles.
