Now, don't be fooled. I like my MK114 so much a bought a second one and keep it as a SHTF back up gun and my PWS is my go to weapon but I wanted another blaster and since a friend talked me out of my other Sig 516 after 3000 trouble free accurate rounds I have wanted another. Well, before I went to bed Sunday i saw a GB deal going down too cheap and I said ughn-ugh, dat ain't happnin. Bottom line it will be in my hands NIB for under 1300 total price including call in etc; no way was I letting that get away. 10 days ago I even picked up an unfired DI gun, yes, no piston. But I saw someone at a GS that needed the money and I made an offer on a S&W MP15 TS and no one offered more so I adopted that little cutie as well. So, while I prefer the PWS MK114 as my GTGun that does not mean I can't fool around on the side. I did want a Barret REC 7 but someone hit the Buy It Now so I missed it. I will be watching for another REC 7 deal though as I really am impressed with that design and build I may be married to the PWS but I do frequent the cheating part of town

Sounds like SIG has a built-in consumer base. All the GenI guys are running out to buy the new GenII guns....

Mine has arrived. Initial impressions are good. I don't know if the new gas block is based on simple product improvement or is the result of the LWRC/Adams Arms lawsuit. Regardless, I think it is a step in the right direction.

Picked up my Gen2 516 Patrol this afternoon.
I see many subtle improvements in finish over the Gen1. The rails seem smoother on the edges, less like you might cut your fingers. The bolt may not function any better but it sure does look much nicer. No Go bag like the Gen1 but a cleaning kit and a nice set of rail covers These are IMO the best value (when you can get them in the 1200-1300 range) of the piston ARs They have excellent lowers with built in sling QD and ambi mag release and that pressure spring to keep the upper and lower mated tight all three things no other gun in this price range has and few in any range has (are there any that does???) Just my opinion but we may be in the last lull before the election panic begins. I believe the horrible economy has kept spending down to less than panic but come September i see things starting to pick up and if the O is in for 4 more expect a frenzy that will make things hard to get at anything but stupid prcies. I could be wrong but I would rather have something I don't need than need something I don't have

I agree with both of you, I was eyeballing the Rec 7 hard, until I saw the FDE 516. Not sure the Barrett is $500 plus more the the Gen2 Sig. I really like the new bolt in the Sig guns. Anxious to hear how they shoot

Wulfmann Remember how you gave me a hard time about the BEAR? I think now is a perfect time to get one. Then you can really compare them. |

Some times I joke around other times I play the devil's advocate just to bring out more facts so I was not sure I had not done so for the Baer.
It is a good design but I am one who sees no reason for the extra charging handle While I am very pleased with my PWS MK114s right now the best dollar for dollar piston buy is the Gen2 Sig516 but of course IMO For one, a buyer can actually get one and for less than a similarly equipped Adams Arms, a decent gun but not on the same level as the Sig, again, IMO Wulfmann |

Is there any surefire way to distinguish between the gen 1 and gen 2 model 516's? I'm contemplating buying 1 vs a Ruger 556 piston rifle, but lean more towards the Sig due to cost. Any help is much appreciated, this will be my 1st piston purchase as well. Thanks in advance!

The GenII rifles will have a more rounded gas adjustment on the gas valve. Also, it looks like all the GenII rifles don't have the white lettering on the lower. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Many Gen1 did not have the white lettering. My brother's did not
A search of the piston threads will show one complaint about a Sig 516 that had a rough BCG that marred the buffer. Now, prepare to spend a lot of time reading about the various Ruger SR556 problems Just from what i have read i would not consider the Ruger but again, IMO. Wulfmann |
