Took two months to decide among all the piston choices out there so I went with LWRC ,quite happy with it when I unboxed it for the very first time.

The firing pin safety put me in an odd position, because the lower I wanted to use in the interim (until I can get the proper lower for it that is eventually to be its "home," and get it Form 1ed) was, as I mentioned, a Colt large-pin lower. It also already had a Geissele SSA in it.
My choices were to either shoot an HK416D clone upper as a pistol, not something I was keen on doing, disable the firing pin safety, or to spend a decent chunk of change (at least relative to what you get) to put an HK compatible FCG in my lower. I still have the factory FCG for the Colt lower... but it has a notched hammer. SAW sells an unnotched .170 hammer, but they want $70+ for it, to go back to a stock FCG from a Geissele SSA. At the same time, I hope to "restore" the MR556's BCG when the upper migrates to its new lower, so I wanted to disable the firing pin safety in a way that was easily reversed (the firing pin safety is pinned in the bolt carrier with a non-reusable rivet). Montrola on HKPRO noted that modifying the end of an AR firing pin to have the same profile as the HK pin (to clear the thicker bolt face as part of the "OTB" package, though the factory MR556 is not fully "OTB") would allow you to use it (sans firing pin spring) without any further modifications with any FCG. I figured it was worth sacrificing a $9 firing pin to shoot a ~$2,000 upper (I paid a decent bit less) the way I wanted to and to see if it really was that easy. So far, I've only test-fired it with the modified pin about fifty rounds (mostly AE XM855) because I did the mod in close conjunction with Snowpocalypse 2016 , but it ran perfectly, and I saved all the brass and inspected it after test firing with the modified firing pin. I'm hoping to run it through its paces quite a bit more this weekend, so I will let the group know if I run into anything expected, but I anticipate no problems. ~Augee |

Took her out last weekend for a night shoot, nine degrees, about eight to ten inches of snow on the ground--firing pin modification, barrel cut, and Geissele trigger all worked great!
