Faxon Ultra-Light Bolt Carrier Groups

Seeing a capability gap, we set out to create a bolt carrier group that could live up to the GUNNER name with no compromise in strength or function. You guys make amazing stuff. The question is the timing in a CQB build (10.5" barrel). What would be the optimum buffer combination? H2? Adjustable gas block? As we know, it's all about the gas! |

As a general rule for any carbine gas barrel we offer, the heavier buffer will help. |

Whew! I was pondering picking one up during intro pricing but was taking my sweet time about it. I log in to Rainier arms about 15 mins ago and it says there is ONE left in stock. Snagged it... logged back in, confirmed, product is out of stock now. Looks like a nabbed the very last one. heh heh. This is going to work great in my 10.5" lightweight SBR build.

There are three ways to nitride steel: a) gas nitride, b) salt bath nitride, and c) plasma nitride. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitriding and compare with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing In the SBN process, you can dip it once or twice..the two-time dip is called QPQ for "quench polish quench"..that is, you dip it then polish then dip it again (I believe that is what she said). "Melonite" is a trade name for this generic QPQ process, kinda sorta like "xerox" is a trade name for photocopying. I hear good things about the company that Faxon uses to do its nitriding, I forget but its in Ohio, unless they changed by now. Having said that......I got one question, why are we still anodizing aluminum receivers? You can nitride aluminum (but its slightly diff details in the process, than steel), but I don't know if it is preferable over anodizing...I think it would be but idk. Anyway, don't respond to this. Off topic. Back on topic, I have become a believer that all steel parts on all firearms should nitrided...I mean why not? If I could nitride several hundred parts for the same price as nitriding one part..I'd do it. And bbls benefit the most from this bc they are the first steel part to wear out...resists throat erosion against several times as many shots. In fact, I remember when CTD did a test of shooting-out multiple barrels with tens of thousands of rounds. They should redo that test w a comparison of a) nitride cro-moly b) nitride stainless c) plain cro-moly and d) plain stainless. But they'd hafta check the actual RC hardness of each bbl first, and then do multiple barrels of each type and each barrel would have to be otherwise identical...lots of time and money to do that test effectively. But I'd like to see it. I'd also like to be the first human to fly to mars. |
