Ok, so what does the 5R give us?

In the case of the 16" 308 barrel you have:

4150 QPQ
4150 QPQ 5R
416R QPQ

If you were going for strictly precision, which barrel would YOU choose for YOUR rifle?

5R

Are you going to be releasing a 16" 416R 5R QPQ barrel?  Seems to me that'd be the end-all-be-all barrel to have?

Hmmm . . .  skunkworks . . .  The GUNNER line might get 5R then . . . 16" or 18" when that goes down, oh the possibilities.

Ugh. I'm building another 14.5 here and was going to buy the Gunner to try out. Now there's rumors of 5R Gunners?!?

It was just wishful thinking of having 5R on the GUNNERs.

What I can't fathom is why no one makes a precision oriented 416R SS  that is button rifled 5R (or w/e)for cost, stress released and heat treated, hand lapped for precision, then finally SBN(salt bath nitriding) QPQ for durability/increased lubricity.

All this for the AR platform in a medium/heavy profile 18 inch rifle gas, a 223 wylde clambering for use with 5.56 but mainly increased accuracy with precision loads of a large variety with a 1:8 twist and it seems like that'd be an ideal barrel that could be reasonably cheap to produce (surely 350$ tops and if that person could maintian quality control and therefore precision it should be a knockdown tack driver, that will last and prevent rust(possibly slight increase to velocity as well)

I mean, I only buy 223 wylde guns because it's far better than 556 nato IMO for any realistic use plus my 68gr handloads usually shoot lights out in the wylde, while a respectable barely but constantly sub moa in my dads colt ar15 hbar 20" 556 1:7 that has many rounds outa it

Just my opinion. Is it because the qpq process would waste the hand lapping? And if you hand lapped after that would just ruin the qpq finish. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than I can explain this to me

A couple weeks ago I was looking at 308 5R barrels on your website. I notice that some of them have been removed though. Will you be selling anymore of the 18" and 20" heavy fluted 5R barrels?

Thank you for the response Nathan.

Any hints on when new SKU's will be available - I was just about to "pull the trigger" on an 18" heavy fluted!

5R is a type of rifling that has a slew of benefits that I'm sure Nathan will be along to post all the important details on.  Big things are theoretically more accurate and easier to clean.

Just dropped my 16'' 5R Faxon barrel into the Mega upper/lower build.   SAS Reaper MX can also:

I now have two Aero Precision M5 upper/lower sets and I'm thinking of building a 16" "carbine" and a 20" SR-25/MK11 Mod 0 ish style rifle.  I had a chance to meet the folks at Faxon at the NRA show briefly and being here in Cincinnati I also want to support the home team.  I've done my research on 5R and think it makes a lot of sense overall, but my question is...for the Carbine...16 or 18"?

For all interested I just ordered a 18" faxon 308 5R flutted. It shipped today and there is a small chance I will choose to go with another barrel (already ordered it too because these were so hard to come by).

Just PM or email if you are interested. I'm not trying to make any money will sell
For my price with my mil discount and I'll pay for shipping.

Man... Im so torn on what to do. Either an ar10 build or a tikka t3 ctr. Im a lowly security guard so I can only afford one or the other. Or both, and no rent. lol.. I need a new job... I went to college for four years for economics and cant find a good job. If my leatherworking business starts working out though, Ill be sure to be getting a barrel or two from you soon after!
