The ears on the torque plate will not allow a vice block to fit the upper.

Not really a big deal as the vice block is only used for installing the barrel nut and nothing else on the upper.

Once the barrel nut is torqued up the upper comes out of the vise block for everything else.
Thank You

Any confirmation on if the ears will affect vice blocks?

Mine actually still fits in my ( I think it was Wheeler brand) clamshell style upper vise block, I just have to make sure it's as far "forward" as it can go before I tighten it down in the vise. It's a close fit but it worked for me. I did the complete install with it (didn't have BEV Block yet). The torque plate was close but it clears.

On the DPMS and Mag-Pul BEV block, the Gen 3 fit just fine UNLESS the torque plate was not fully seated.  On the one upper where the torque plate would not go around the upper, it would also not allow the upper to seat fully on the DPMS two-pin upper holder or the BEV block.  But once the torque plate was modified so it would go around the out of spec BCM blemmed upper, the BEV block and DPMS units fit perfectly.  On the other upper, AP I think, everything fit perfectly and nothing needed any mods.

Still jonesing for a 10.5 inch light weight Keymod FDE G3.  It's too cold now to Duracoat so the window has closed on coating a black one unless I jerry-rig something for spraying inside the basement.

Troy, can you tell me dimension under barrel?

Bought Syrac Ordnance gen II adj. gas block. According Syrac's web page, block is .238 below barrel contour.

Thanks.

Great handguard guys!  Just finished another 6.5 Grendel build for a friend with one, the 15", which turned out nice on a 16" barrel.

I FDE Cerakoted it with H Series bake on:

Check out the weight with an AA fluted 16" pipe:

Got my 15" m lok a day early and installed it last night. Very pleased with the rail! Fit and finish is superb. This is now my second rail from MI and I will keep coming back for more.

One question, should I need to remove the rail how much of a pain is it to remove the loctite compound from the nut/inner rail? Any tips should I need them?

Thanks,

-Justin

Im wondering one thing, and I see it was asked a few comments back but I havent seen the answer so forgive me if it was posted

Im only wondering the long term survive-ability of the way the handguard attaches to the barrel nut.  Locktite and clamping force is very good I know.  Im just wondering if its enough to keep the handguard from "wiggling" off or loose over time and use.  If you get a longer rifle length handguard and use the QD attatchment point on the forward end, it will naturally leverage the anchor point more and potentially break it free.  Im sure that seeing this system is a long term product of MI and has been around for a long time, it is proven.  Im just asking if anyone has had an issue with the lack of a mechanical attachment (screws) in this design.

That being said I plan on buying a keymod one for my new billet build and adding one to 2 other ar's that I have.

I like it there, and at 3:00 and 9:00.  I like lots of choices and am of the school of thought, better to have more than you need than not enough.  If one does not like it at any of the three front or two rear locations, don't use them.   My money is that they would lose a lot more customers by removing attachment points than from including them, but they cannot please everyone.  That's why there are a blue gazillion forends on the market today.  Everyone and their grandmother is making stuff for ARs anymore and I freaking LOVE IT!  Something for everyone.
