I am happy to announce that we now have our AR mags back in stock. All models plus all colored parts are in stock and ready to go.
We have been promising everyone that we would do a discount because there are a lot of people just finding out about us. So, please use discount code AR15.com to get 25% off the mags at checkout. That equals a price of $13.49 for our non coupled mags and $14.99 for our coupled mags. Thanks to everyone for being patient while we catch up on mag production. Also, thanks to everyone for supporting us. We truly appreciate your business. ETS AR Magazines |

Lets not be like all the other manufactures and forget about the 5.45x39 AK74 mag when designing AK mags..

Lets not be like all the other manufactures and forget about the 5.45x39 AK74 mag when designing AK mags.. View Quote I hear ya, but we always have to take a look at popularity. When it costs a significant amount of money (is tooling and development) to bring a mag to market we can't just make every mag that we want. We have to be able to sell significant numbers of mags, or the tooling and development costs would make the end product cost prohibitive. Now, I am not saying that is the case with the AK74, I am just saying that we haven't even began to analyze the potential sales market to see if it even makes sense. But rest assured we will take a hard look at it. But I have to assume that the reason we don't see a lot of makers in that market is simply because the demand is just not high enough. Let's just say for talking purposes that the average cost to bring a mag to market is $250,000. This includes injection molds, engineering costs, and testing costs, among other things. Now, if there are 100,000 AK74s in the USA then you really have to ask yourself how many you are really going to sell. If you only sell 50,000 units then you are talking $5 per mag just to cover the cost to bring it to market. That doesn't include the actual cost to manufacture the mag and we haven't even addressed making a profit. All of these numbers are made up, but it's important to understand why we, and other companies, don't just make a mag for every gun under the sun. We constantly get requests to make a mag for this gun or that. And we really do want to make a great mag for everyone, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense from a financial standpoint. KERTWOOD I am not pointing this answer specifically at your question, because we all know the AK74 is a pretty popular rifle, but I just want everyone to have a decent idea of why we don't just make a mag for any and everything out there. |

I received a couple of the coupled mags this week.
I am very impressed with the construction, fit, and finish of the magazines, as well as how the polymer is more transparent than other "clear" ones on the market. The magazines fit very well in all my lowers with no issues that required trimming. I will get them out this weekend for some test firing, but so far loading, unloading, and fitting are exceptional. Anxiously looking forward to the glock magazines coming out, please keep us updated as they come along! |

Just been keeping an eye on these/this thread for a while, now. I was curious about one thing, and forgive me, but we all know Magpul is the big-dog here that everyone is trying to beat or compete with.
Magpul states that their magazines (M3) are the only one's shown thus far to feed M855A1 without un-due wear to the weapon. It is my opinion that this is caused by the steel tip, and how the Magpul magazine presents the round. Has ETS done or had any testing with alpha 1 done? |

View Quote We haven't done extensive testing with M855A1. It's hard to get. We have had some active military guys run some though our mags, but no where near enough to begin testing the wear affects on the rifle. In my opinion, the only way you could get valid data for this issue is to have 2 brand new guns and put several thousands of rounds of A1 through each with a GI mag and our mag. Then side by side you would get an idea if the wear is reduced. I know that we have a feed angle under our feedlips that is slightly different than a GI mag. I'm not sure how that compares to the Pmag. But with all of the negative things I have heard about the effects of the A1 round on the M4 I would be willing to bet it's days are numbered in service..... I know Magpul made a statement in another thread that guys have told them their mag is the only mag they have seen that will reduce that wear, but with out quantifiable testing, that isn't worth much, IMHO. In my mind, with the elevated chamber pressures and faster cycling the M855A1 causes in the M4, I would really think the accelerated wear on the feedramps is a minor concern compared to the other damage and wear it causes... |

Hey Mike,
We really appreciate you taking the time to post up these pics and to test the mag like you have. At some point, when you feel ready to part with it, we would love to send you a new mag and get that one back to look at its wear. It looks to me like once you clean it up, other than a few scratches and dings that thing will like perfectly fine. I am also very confident that it will retain its transparency once cleaned. I will give you this, that is the dirtiest I have ever seen our mag. We have done a lot of testing even in some SBRs with suppressors, but we can't let them go that long without cleaning them some, or we can't see what's going on with the mag.... PS, we will send you a few free Glock mags for you to test out. |

In my mind, with the elevated chamber pressures and faster cycling the M855A1 causes in the M4, I would really think the accelerated wear on the feedramps is a minor concern compared to the other damage and wear it causes... Well...yes, and no. See, the issue is that A1 has a steel exposed tip. The harder it hits, the more wear. The more angle it hits with, the "softer" the impact. So... If your mags reduce wear with A1, it's only possible by extension that they feed "slicker" and more directly into the chamber. I don't have access to A1 in any quantity, so I'm not worried about wear...but based on the physics involved, here, a mag that reduces wear with A1, should feed slicker with darn near any round. To that end...have you compared cyclic rates on full-auto with your magazine vs. others? This will give a great idea of friction, as well as how "slick" feed geometry is. I'd be very curious to see a bunch of mags compared with a full-auto setup to see what RPM they average over, say, 3 mags each. |

Got to hit the range today, and all I can say is that I am very impressed. As previously noted, the fit and function cycling these magazines is awesome; under live fire today they performed flawlessly.
I tried various drills under different speeds, positions, and platforms and experienced zero issues. No problems with bolt lock back on an empty magazine, and fully loaded, they seat well on a closed bolt. Even coupled and in the prone, the magazines worked without issue and unlike some other coupled magazines, they don't extend too far down making prone positions difficult. I used to use several versions of 40-48 round extended magazines for 3-gun, but that always presents a problem when going prone, with minimal training a practice, you can do reloads with coupled magazines quickly and overcome the disadvantage on position that extended capacity magazines presented; plus now I have 60 on the gun instead of 48 at best. I am probably going to ditch my Lancers for these in 3-gun now and cannot wait to try out the Glock magazines. I am using a G34 for IPSC, IDPA, and 3-gun, so they will get plenty of use. ***ETSGroup, let me know if you need some Glock magazines tried out*** Quoted:

I'd be very curious to see a bunch of mags compared with a full-auto setup to see what RPM they average over, say, 3 mags each. I hear what you are saying and I agree with most of your ideas.I think what we are talking about here revolves around the feeding angle of the feedlips. On a GI mag, probably due to the fact they are stamped, they have basically no degrees of feed angle. Since we don't have that limitation, we can put in a little angle. I don't want to go into specifics on specs, but our feedlips do have a positive feeding angle built into them. I am still very skeptical as to how much of a difference that would make with regards to reducing wear caused by any round. I know the accelerated wear from the A1 round comes from the steel penetrator that ends up being steel on steel. And any time you have that, the wear is going to be much greater than copper on steel. That's just basic science, steel has a much higher friction coefficient than copper and is much harder. So we fully understand why the A1 round causes the extra wear. I'm just not convinced any mag, ours included, will have any measurable affect on that. And regardless of what Magpul or anyone else claims, until I see true scientific data with proper testing to get validated results, I am skeptical at best. |
