Nice, I'm certainly interested in your products for mine and my wife's AR's but I'm curious to know if there are plans for a fixed A2 stock length Buttstock?

What would be really kool is a fixed extended carbine length, somewhere between a fixed carbine and A2 length.

OK I finally got some time to whip out a prototype for you guys with the big bore ARs. This prototype adapter is made from 1/4" Al. With the squishy pad it adds 3/4" (longer than the hard buttpad). This is a Prototype. We are not committed to making these. If you want to buy one, post here and get my bosses attention. My initial reaction is I like it. It makes it harder to get into battery in a hurry, but it sure is comfy. I think I'll make one for my AR-10 and my .450 bushmaster. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=66912 View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Anybody tried one yet? I got one, was really excited about these but was a little disappointed when I got it. First off its a very nice stock and well made. I was expecting the rubberized sections to be softer like the hand guards they make but they are not. I was looking for something to help with recoil on some big bore ar's. (Beowulf/Socom) These are not the answer. OK I finally got some time to whip out a prototype for you guys with the big bore ARs. This prototype adapter is made from 1/4" Al. Maybe cerakoat or anodized the aluminum adapter plate just for aesthetics purposes but other than that in theory, perfect. |

I'm curious, is that rubber looking nub at the top of the butt a permanent part of the stock and how soft/firm is it? The butt-pad is over-molded, so yes the rubber looking nub is permanent, actually that nub is the only part that is not rubber, it's a harder polymer. To answer your question it's very hard compared to the rubber. We did that on purpose to help keep from snagging on your clothes/plate carrier when your bringing your rifle up fast. With rubber in contact with the buffer tube, how smooth does the stock slide in and out? I have found it to be pretty smooth, I put a little silicon grease in there to keep it that way. Its not as smooth as plastic on aluminum, but we weren't going for that. Will there be a future version with battery storage? Maybe have them be modular pieces that can be added or taken off at will? We have our battery storage in the pistol grip right now. Maybe on a future rifle stock, but probably not this version. We went for comfortable minimalist. Are the rubber cheek weld parts swappable? Nope, permanent part of the stock. We could make an aftermarket cheek rest that could be installed, but we'd have to see some demand. This question is off topic but something that's always mildly annoyed me. With your finger grooved grips, I get some bind between the rubber overmold and the selector lever. It's a bit worse with an ambi selector as both sides rub a bit. Have you guys ever thought about maybe thinning up the rubber under the area that the lever sweeps over? FYI, I use BAD ASS levers on my ARs. I'll have to answer this when the BAD lever shows up. Email me a picture to help me out? View Quote Sorry, I was out of town a lot the past month for work and completely forgot about this. Thanks for answering my questions. Even with the limited options, this has a good chance of being the stock I use for my SBR build. As for the grip rubbing with the BAD ASS, I ended up alleviating the problem by switching to the BAD half-length levers that do not sweep the grip at all. I'm not sure where my full length levers are at the moment, but if I can dig them out, I'll put them on and snap pics of the witness marks and clearance issues. Thanks again for the reply. |

I'm ready to buy a new stock, when do you expect to have a Fixed Carbine length stock available?
|
|
[#13]
I'm not going to lie to you friend, we are not that close.
However I'm interested to know what you would like to see in a fixed buttstock |
|
[#14]
I sloped check weld, some form of storage. Maybe a take on a strike plate? Something that fits over a mil spec carbine buffer tube, if a fixed carbine length. Maybe on the lower end, some form of hand hook for shooting prone when/if needed.
Different colors! I'm tired of the same 3 boring ass colors. I don't want a gun that "looks" like it would be useful in a desert. So please, offer more than the 3 cliche colors everyone wants because people in a desert 3000 miles away use it. In other words, something different. I like what you did with your collapsible stock. Pretty basic with a new twist. It's really about options. The buttstock market is pretty stale. With magpul have almost a monopoly on the market. Atleast they are setting a damn good standard for others to follow. I'd like to see a skeletonized take on magpuls fixed rifle length stock. And also a solid take on the fixed carbine stock. I think that should be y'alls foundation for brainstorming. What could y'all do differently? How could you improve? Of course, everything will be different to protect against copyright infringement, but I'm just saying that should be where you start. Again, just my opinion. |

However I'm interested to know what you would like to see in a fixed buttstock View Quote Well I'm going to end up buying the MOE Fixed Carbine Stock then. The MOE Fixed Carbine is just a little short for me at 8.5" so I'll have to put the Extended Rubber Bitt-Pad to add an extra half inch, if that isn't enough I will make an extension pad to insert between the stock and the pad. The MOE Rifle Stock measures about 10.5", that's more than I want so to answer your question I would love to see YOUR design in a fixed stock like the MOE Fixed Carbine at about 8.5 to 9 inches. I like the style of Magpul's stock but I love Hogue's better. Just make your Rubber OverMolded Collapsible Buttstock in a fixed design, that would be what I'd like to see. |

The complete buttstock weighs about 8.3oz Without the buttpad and associated hardware we're looking at 6.8oz We used our Over-molding technology not just for comfort on the outside, but on the inside as well. Most of the contact points where the stock touches the buffer tube are rubber, which mitigates the rattling & vibrations. View Quote Does this mean that the rubber can/will wear over time and thus the lockup/rattle proofing may not be as good several years down the road? This isn't speaking about safe queen rifles for pretty photos, I am talking about tools that are actually used, I know we are a small group nowadays, lol!!!!! |

View Quote So I sat down with the Lead Engineer in charge of this project so that I could answer your question, and I got a few things wrong. The contact on the buffer tube is NOT only a rubber to aluminum contact. We tried that but the rubber grabbed the tube too hard, making the LOP adjustment overly difficult. What we did was make a raised polymer rib instead, which contacts the buffer tube and mitigates the rattle. This polymer rib will wear in over time, but not to the extent that I’d be afraid to take it out of the safe. I personally use this stock hard, and while my name wouldn't mean much to the gun world, we're fortunate that Jerry Miculek is using it and likes it. Again, the tight fit will wear in over time, but not so much that you’d notice. |

I have to ask why? In a saturated market another stock that brings nothing new. Magpul has the stock game locked up.

You have the best grips, they are all I use.Now I will use your stocks. They look well made and functional. Any hand-guards in the future to round it out? (not aluminum) Craig

I have decided that I want this stock on a build I am wrapping up. Are the recoil pads now available? If not how can I get one to give it a run, or to purchase? Thanks Hogue, nevermind the negative comments, y'all build excellent products and I am not embarrassed at all to say that I have a Hogue item of one kind or another on all my SD weapons and see no plans of changing any time soon.

We are possibly going to build these pads through our custom shop for now. We are working on pricing.
Please give us a week or so to iron out the details. |

Just wanted to comment on the overmolded finger groove grips with the beaver tail since we discussed them earlier in this thread. They fit and feel fantastic, ditched my Magpul MIAD's on two other AR's For these and love them! One of mine already had the normal finger groove model and most of my hand guns use your grips so I'm not surprised but kudos, they really are nice!

What material are your buffer tubes?
I see you offer some packages Can we contact you for some mix and match? For instance I am interested in your buttstock buffer kit combo plus over mold grip Thanks Look great |
|
[#32]
I'm sorry
We considered that kit for the builders out there, but it's just too complicated for us to spin off any more combos right now. Your best savings would be to buy our butt-stock assembly and whatever grip you wanted. I will however bump this to my superiors and hopefully we will be able to offer this kit in the future. |

I ordered the stock and grip in ghillie tan for the wife's second rifle and they showed up today. She had seen the photos on the website and wanted them. Hogue shipped quickly, less than a week from order to delivery, very happy with that.
The stock appears well made, I wouldn't hesitate to pick use one myself even after having been happy with CTR's on all my collapsibles. The grip feels OK, it's the version without finger grooves. I'm glad to see that option offered, since the finger grooves have always made me avoid Hogue's AR grips in the past. I'd pick this grip if using their buttstock. Unfortunately, neither piece was mounted and I'll most likely have to put them up for sale locally. She loved the grip, but the match with the stock really wasn't even close. Most shooters would have just mounted it and been OK, had it been for me I probably would have too since I understand that different batches of rubber are going to show some color variation. But, her gun, her rules. After looking at it even I had go . Not a knock on Hogue here by any means, parts are well made, shipping was quick, price was reasonable, just have to keep my source of sammiches happy and this stuff didn't do it. |

3 QD swivel sockets are a really nice idea.
Please tell me they are limited rotation? If not I really couldn't use the product. |

I've been looking on the website for the OverMolded Collapsible stock and non-finger groove beavertail grip in the Ghillie Green color and all I can find is OD Green. Can you help me out with order info?
Nevermind, I got it figured out. |

View Quote Hello NeverMiss556, Presently, Hogue's swivels feature 360 deg rotation and we have no plans to introduce a swivel with limited (25 deg, etc.) travel. We like your suggestion, however, and we'll make sure to forward it to product development under the heading "good ideas to take a look at." Thanks for your post! |

Any word on pricing for the butt pad?
Also will the pads be available in the same colors offered rest of the AR furniture? I'd love it if they were, it would totally validate my need for Hogue furnished lower for my 450 Bushmaster upper (which already needs your overmold free float handguard). P.S. I've always been a huge fan of your products and seeing your customer service just through this thread makes me an even bigger fan of your company. Keep up the great work! |
