2A-Armament introduces the “BALIOS-lite” billet upper and lower receiver sets. With weight saving as the prime objective, 2A-Armament set out to build a lightweight solution for those looking for a solid platform to build on. The BALIOS-lite has all the same great features and aesthetics as our standard BALIOS sets, but incorporates a significant weight reduction. The BALIOS-lite is perfect for those who participate in 3-gun, hunting, or any other shooting activity where weight is a concern. Both the upper and lower receivers are equally at home on a standard forged product from other vendors. The flared magazine well aids in rapid reloading, and the tapered transition under the charging handle prevents associated wear patterns from damaging the finish. We have eliminated the forward assist, and retained the port door cover on the upper receiver. Features: 3-D Machined from U.S.A. Certified 7075-T6 plate aluminum Machine textured magazine well compliments popular accessories Pocketed design reduces weight, and enhances appearance Forward assist has been removed from upper to reduce weight Bolt release features screw in pin (Included) Integrated and lightened trigger guard Upper receiver features M4 style feed ramps Machined T-Markings and minimized logo for a clean appearance Tapered charging handle ramp to eliminate unsightly wear marks Integrated tensioning screw guaranties a tight fit (included) Bead blasted and hard coat anodized black (Type3 class2) Can be interchanged with forged, or standard BALIOS sets Weight: ( Lower 6.50 oz ) (Upper 5.85 oz ) Stripped Product of the great state of Idaho, MADE IN THE U.S.A. Individual Part Numbers: (Lower 2A-BL556-2) (Upper 2A-BU556-2) Dealer List: http://www.2a-arms.com/dealers Direct Links to product: http://www.hawktecharms.com/SearchResults.asp?mfg=2A+Armament http://www.vertexops.com/2A_Armament_Products_s/1921.htm |

Very cool.
One of the more interesting firearms components I've seen in a long while. Please don't charge an arm and a leg . . . |
Wow! I"m in! That's the best looking lower to come out in a long time. Are you going to offer different color options in the future? Clear would be awesome as well.
Wow, that lower is stunning! Please make an upper without a forward assist or brass deflector to match the lower. Keep it clean and light. Great job!
Thanks for the compliments guys, I will pass it on to the guys in the shop....
An upper is already cut, and ready... I still need to function check, and get Bryan to do a CMM program for it. We will be getting a few pre-production sets out to Ano Friday if all goes well. I have yet to look into colors, but we are thinking it's a must for the 3-gun guys. there is only 6 of us here at the shop, so you guys will have to be understanding on our first roll out. |
It's pretty rare that I see a new lower that actually excites me, but that thing is slick!
ETA: Any chance of one without a forward assist? |
the BALIOS-lite upper has no forward assist. It does have a minimized shell deflector though. (Sorry, I am a lefty.)
The attention to detail 2A has put into this is incredible.
Nicely done sir. |
So how quickly is Stick going to get a matched set so he can build a phenomenal gun and show off the epicness?

View Quote The key to success on this is a) lightweight, b) zero play with matched upper, and c) low price. I also agree with integrated trigger guard and threaded bolt release pin. Must haves. This could be really good. I recommend starting with a low price so as to get your product in the hands of users. If it catches on, then you can increase your price in proportion to demand. However, if you start with a high price, you will shoot yourself in the foot from the get go. Build a reputation, and then move on from there. Then, produce large frame receiver sets (.308, dpms low profile upper) and keymod hand guards (both large and small frame)...keeping in mind these same basic principles. Then, profit. Remember, the more people to own intermediate rifles, the less likely they can ban them. See District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) (congress may only ban weapons not in "common use" at the time of the ban). This would most likely be measured by gross lower receiver sales, as there is no way to determine how many individuals own lower receivers, but you can determine how many lowers are produced and sold to private citizens. Congress beat us on suppressors and select fire weapons. Well suppressors aren't banned, but you know what I mean. I tend to cherish my hearing; federal legislature be darned. I also recommend everyone start registering thier lowers as SBRs. I am going to be purchasing a new small-frame receiver set before summer fully starts, which I plan to register as an SBR. That's why I am so interested in this. Light weight is pretty important (10.5" 556, 8" 300BLK). You have 6 folks working in your office? That's the American dream, right there. Live it. Make it work. Do the right thing. Be smart; be effective. |
Damnit and I was planning to stop building after the one Im currently working on. That looks soo good I might have to build another...
I don't really care about the weight but it is a cool looking lower.
I will purchase a matched set for a KMR upper lightweight build if these are released relatively soon.
is there a "notify me" list available I can be placed on when these become available?
You can send an E-mail to support@2a-arms and I will flag it for notification. That should work... We are trying to get the "capcha!" deal working on our website for this purpose.

Do the trigger pin ribs prevent the use of "anti-rotation" devices? (Gawd I hope so!)
Are they cosmetic or are they there to reinforce the pins? Is there any chance you could do an integrated right side bolt release for the 3gun guys running ambi uppers? I love my Seekins SP223 because of the bolt release over the mag release button (I have a left charging upper), but dropping a quarter pound with a different lower is worth trying out. Also definitely in for a slickside upper. |
Damn. Now I'm comparing pics of this thing side by side to my Seekins.
It's like your hot GF asking you if she looks fat... |
Any idea how much the upper will weigh? Any idea of pricing for a matched set?
This is the first time a lower, of all things, really piqued my interest. I have a ULW build floating around in my head. |

We have a great concept for a right side bolt release/catch, but will most likely save it for a different product down the road. |

View Quote Last time I weighed the upper, it was at 5.9 oz, and we are removing a cosmetic feature before release to keep it from working with some rails (The bell found on our standard BALIOS) Might be 5.5oz?? we will know in the next week or so. We are trying as best we can to get price down as low as possible. Obviously these have a lot of machine time in them, and that = $$$... The guys had a sit down today to hash out production improvements to save time on the machine without making the product look like a brick. |

I like these alot, probably more if i didn't just finish a LW build Maybe one day a lite .308 version would sway me to building a .308 :)

You should put a hump on the side to prevent the installation of KNS pins... it's just wrong to add unnecessary weight to such a nice lightweight lower.

This looks great! My regards to the designer(s). View Quote Thank you so much for the Compliments, I wish I could say I designed it. My input consisted of the compatibility limitations as far as other parts fitting it, and the texture on the front of the mag-well. Brian K.
