That looks great. I am glad it fits nice and tight. We don't want anyone complaining they fit loose in the lower.
I will get you some pictures posted of a black SSg2 with a MI billet upper. With a 14.5" barrel you will want to run a 12" handguard. the 15" will extend too far. Thank you, PETE MI |

Thanks for the pictures. What barrel lengths are in the pictures? Are those 15" and 12" rails? Thanks again.

Or you could wait for the rumored MI billet lowers...
Thank You Andy MI |

Does anyone know if I can this the MI billet upper in different Anodized color or just a raw billet upper?
TIA! |
|
Just got my upper today and it looks great! Can't wait to put it together. Thanks for a great product!

Any plans to offer this as a matched set when your lower is ready?

Can you put some pictures up of your billet upper and new billet lower so I can see how they match up please.

Looking very good there. I really like the looks of those units. Question about the flared mag well. I put an aftermarket flared mag well on one of my 5.56s that gives a very similar outward appearance and while it really works great, it will not allow a Beta-C mag to be installed. So the flared mag well had to go to a 6.8. Most of my builds now are calibers that are not compatible with the C mag anyway but it is something I am aware of when doing a build based on the 5.56.
Does your lower allow a Beta-C mag to be installed? Personally, I'd rather have the flare and not use a C-mag, IMO they are toys anyway, than not have the flare. Besides, the flare adds a little bit of flair without being gauche. |
|
You are correct, our billet lowers will not work with the Beta-C mags.
The flare on our magazine well will not allow the dual drum C-mag to fit. Surefire 60/100 round magazines fit and function just fine though. Thank You Andy MI |

Is the ejection port opened enough that a 450 Bushmaster or 458 Socom case could be ejected without issues?
Thanks |
|
That looks to be the standard opening so you would have to enlarge it for the .458 SOCOM. It is not a hard job to do and I have done several myself with just a Dremel and files, but you must be careful and tape up everything you do not want cut, with several layers.
Remove mostly from the bottom and very little from the top if you want your EP cover to latch closed. It is not a hard job but it does take time and care to keep all cuts filed straight and if you take off too much, top or bottom, the EP cover is useless so go carefully. When done clean with Acetone and touch up with Aluma-Black. If you are not the patient type or prone to get in a hurry and cut twice and measure once, let someone else with a mill cut it out, such as Paladin Machine Shop Service in Kershaw S.C.. The specs for the opening are on 458SOCOMforums.com |
|
What's the expected ETA on the billet lower? I'd like to buy a matching MI upper/lower for my next build. Also do you have any plans of offering the uppers/lowers in FDE?

Saw these and went for one.
I will be calling MI tomorrow for a replacement. The ones in the posts above do NOT look like the one I received. The one I got had machine marks like someone finished it with a butter knife. Looks like it was placed on an upper before I got it too or something. There are two marks on the bottom near the rear. FWD Assist opening: Complete set of pics I have. Very disappointed to say the least. |

Andy,
I want to thank you for the support I have received from MI!!! I got the new upper and it is MUCH better than the original one... I got the BBL installed. The timing took a little more that what is stated on the Gen2 rail but I managed to get it spot on. The last 4 pics of the upper with the BBL are here. Thanks again!!! Later, Jeff |

Sorry the first one was dinged up, the new one looks good.
If there is anything else I can help with please let me know. Thank You Andy MI |

Is it normal for the machine marks to be this obvious? This was taken with my crappy phone. In person it looks worse.

The forward assist detail is contour milled. That's a ton of passes to get it to be a round shape. They will all have those steps to some extent. If you don't like it or find it unacceptable I would suggest getting a forged upper or one with a square or angle shape in that area. Thanks. Troy. MI

Just noting these do not work with s&w/ utg pro quad rail. The walls are too thick to mount the rail to the bbl nut. Getting a seekins bar I don't think it should have any problems. If I'm wrong please let me know.
