New from CORE15 is our StressProof® Steel Barrel Nut. 100% CNC machined for exact tolerances, no punch press operations what so ever. The CORE15 Barrel Nut is an upgraded alternative from the mil-spec barrel nut that is being used today.

  • Manganese Phosphate Finish
  • Stressproof® is made by a patented process which consists of drawing the bar through a special die under heavy draft, then stress relieving it in a pricisely controlled furnace.
  • When Niagara LaSalle developed Stressproof® in 1938, it changed the economics of part production. Because for the first time, users could get an improved wearability without case hardening, strength without heat treating, plus excellent machinability and tool life
  • STRESSPROOF® is electro-magnetically tested using eddy currents. Other benefits include resistance to fatigue and stress, balanced working and minimum warpage and distortion.

Very interesting. Especially that it is cheaper compared to GI barrel nuts that go from $8-10.

Do you know what the weight differences are between the two nuts (my next build is a lightweight setup)?

Will this worth with standard delta rings? Centurion, Troy, and Samson rails?

Not sure a RASII would be able to mount to that barrel nut. Interesting design though

Yes, it will work with mil-spec delta ring assemblies and rails that utilize a mil-spec barrel nut. Every rifle we manufacture is assembled with one of our barrel nuts. It is still the same design, it is just improved upon by using stronger material and more advanced machining processes than the original design.

I think I like this. Barrel nut concentricity is an issue with the Troy Alpha and I once had a problem getting a DD Omega lined up on a crappy barrel nut. I will buy and try.

Obviously, great quality is appreciated. But is there a problem with mil-spec nuts? I have never heard of one breaking?

Seems the point is that they are square and consistent.

^^^^This.

As well, what we found assembling the quantities of rifles we build is that quality of barrel nuts can vary GREATLY from lot to lot and source to source. It is not at all uncommon for the teeth to round off or even break off completely. In researching these before jumping into making them ourselves, what we found is that by and large most manufacturers (especially those over-seas, which we avoid at all costs) incorporate something along the lines of 1018 mild steel (or the like), machine it to spec, then use a 100-ton punch press and a die to cut the teeth. This is indeed a very fast, efficient way to make them, but does not lend itself well to strength, consistency or concentricity. The first, say, hundred thousand or so that come off that die will be fine, but as time goes on and the die wears, the quality of the part will suffer. Our barrel nuts take that game of chance out of the equation for customers interested in the highest level of consistency.

To our line of thinking, to build a $3000 AR (or $850 basic M4 for that matter) with all the finest parts money can buy and then hinge the entire thing together with a sub-par, inconsistent, out-of-round barrel nut just doesn't make a bit of sense. Bolt-gun guys spend big money to have everything squared up in that area, and we figured if we could give the AR community a strong head start in that direction for $7.50, that's a no-brainer if there ever was one.

As always, we really appreciate the comments and feedback guys, you're the ones making all this happen. Keep 'em coming.

Looks interesting... especially at its price point.

Very nice looking product.

I doubt I'll change the one on my BCM upper, but I'll keep you guys in mind when I build my own upper.

Very, very true. I'll be ordering a few of these, to replace exactly what you've said.

Seems like such a simple part. But bad barrel nuts are out there and have caused a fair amount of grief. I will have to try this.
Handy little carbine. The M44 is a combination flash bang grenade, flame thrower, rifle and spear all in one.

Anyone know if these will work with Troy rails that use the factory barrel nut with the 3 clamp setup?

ordered 2 today, shipping alittle high. Will be using with a Troy MRF-MX, I have 2 mil spec barrel nuts and one will work and the other will not. Since I'm waiting on my barrel anyway I will try one out and have a spare for down the road

seems like a great product for the price

thanks

So are the teeth on these new barrel nuts stronger than the original design?

Will the KAC RAS work with these new barrel nuts?
