Howdy,

I bought an M16A1 clone that came with this barrel.  I was under the impression I was buying a build with a new production barrel, but these markings make me think otherwise.  Could someone please give me some insight to this barrel?  I've looked at the part ID guides, and I think it might be USGI, but the forge code on the upper receiver is CH, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is post '74, and these barrel markings are '68-'70?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MP12 barrels were the last barrel markings before the chrome chamber was added when the M16A1 was adopted.

MP12 barrels were made from mid 1966 - fall 1967. Your upper it is post 1974.

I think I just saw an MP12 barrel sell on gb for about $450 recently. Very nice score!

Thanks for the info!  Paid $920 for the whole rifle, and it's in great shape.  This is definitely a pleasant surprise!  I hope to get some nice pictures up when I can.

I won't be able to take pictures for a couple of days, but when I do I'll put them in the picture threads.

I was told this was put together from a parts kit, which appeared to comprise of the usual mid '70s parts, so I'm curious to see if I have anything else of interest.

Nice buy.

Personally, if you plan to do a lot of shooting with it, I'd get a a CMP Chrome Bore marked barrel, and sell that one to someone who needs it for their early builds.

Thanks gents.  I'm definitely considering getting a CMP Chrome Bore or Green Mountain barrel for shooting.  Collecting is nice, but I love shooting!

Can anyone comment on the accuracy of the Green Mountain Barrels?
