A local pawn shop has this Colt carbine but they've been firm on the price, how old do you think it is and what do you guys think that it's worth?

It has a 2 position buffer tube, unshrouded BCG and looks like new

You really need to call Colt customer service to find out when it was made. They will tell you. It is a R6520. My guess is that it is from around 1986 or 1987. As far as value, it al depends on whether you are in a ban state or not. You can find these from $1200-$1800 depending on condition, whether they are NIB, or they still have the original accessory pack with them. I know of one that was for sale that was NIB and they were asking $1700. Not bad for what it was.

I am sure others with more info will chime in, but here is what I found on Google.  I am not sure how accurate this is.  Colt's Serial Lookup provided no results.

Gov Carbine 6520 (GC018500 and Below Preban)

Bigger hammer shows 18500 and below as preban.  Colt website says no data.  Early90's is my guess.

Late 1980s would be my guess. The last government carbine with the large front pin had a raised mag fence just prior to Colt placing sear blocks in the lowers and going to thr .250 front pins.

My guess on value would be $1600 to $1700.

There you go. This is a fine AR to own. It is one model I have yet to get. I have a R6500 AR-15 A2 Sporter II that needs a little brother. After all, I have a SP1 Carbine to go with my SP1 Sporter.

..and it's sold

I saw it a few months back at $1650 and was waiting for them to get down on price, I was going to offer $1K or $1200 at most, they sold it over the weekend at $1400

The pre-ban Sporter II carbines are all over the place, but a nice condition Gov't carbine is harder to come by.   Someone is a very happy cat for picking that rifle up for $1400 (I would have been).

The one pictured in this thread is pretty cool. A 1989 Marked A2 with at least a partial fence or slabside possibly I can't tell which on a A1 profile lower. Sitting on top a 1/7 twist barrel. Very nice.
