Holy crap, dude, you just saved me $35! I have never even thought about this benefit! I just filed my claim. Now to see if it works without hassle! Steve View Quote Now, any and every purchase that I make with my card, I look for the lowest prices I can and for 60 days after the purchase, I'll watch for a price drop. Citi gives you 60 days after the purchase, Chase gives you 90 days. On Amazon, if you use Prime, 9 times out of 10 you pay more than you might from just a normal listing. But, the normal listings might charge shipping. So if I buy something with Prime for $50 with free shipping, but some other listing has the same exact thing for $39.95 with $10 shipping, I'll buy the $50 free shipping item then price match the $39.95 price and get the lower price. Shipping charges aren't taken into consideration when they do the price matching. These cards give you up to $2500 per year, I'm determined to get all $2500 lol. |

Something else I meant to mention is, if you spend $3,000 within a 3 month period on your bills or various other things that you have to spend on (not including a mortgage or car payment), and haven't had a Capital One Venture card or a Chase Sapphire card (theirs is $4,000 in 3 months), then apply for one of those cards (but make sure you're eligible for their bonus).
With Capital One, if you spend $3,000 within the first 90 days of having the card, they give you a 40,000 point bonus. Which you can turn into $400 worth of gift cards. With them, I got $400 worth of Wal-Mart gift cards, then used them for grocery shopping and basically converted the gift cards into $400 cash which I used to buy a surplus A1 kit (which I got for $385 I think). With Chase, they give 50,000 points for $4,000 in spending within the first 90 days. With that one, I knew I had a large purchase coming up and I knew I was going to buy my M1A. So $4,000 in 90 days was going to happen regardless. So I got my 50,000 bonus points and Chase allows you to cash them in for money. So I cashed them in and got $500 deposited to my bank account... actually, it was closer to $650 I think because my purchases also racked up points in addition to the 50,000 bonus points. That, along with calling DirecTV and Cox (my Internet/Phone provider) to threaten to cancel, has basically gotten me a free M1 Garand, a free Range Officer 1911, an two free Ar-15's (an A1 and an A2) over the past several years. You have to play the game if you want cool, free stuff... lol |

VABeachGuy you are a master!!! Steve View Quote I've tried to figure out how to do my mortgage that way, but I haven't found a way to do that yet. Also, I bought a new car recently and intended to put $5,000 cash down on it. So I used my credit card and got 2% cash back AND fulfilled their minimum spending requirement for their bonus. When I got back from getting the car, I immediately paid the $5,000 so no interest would build. Like I said, it's all a game, you just have to use the rules in your favor lol. |

The barrels arrived today…. wow, I am very impressed. One heck of a deal, especially considering that there are basically ready to screw on. Awesome! As already stated earlier, the ding in the bore is trivial at best.
Only bummer, is the upper receiver that I ordered was absent from the box…. called Brownell's, as per the course with their excellent service, the missing receiver is inbound. |

I called them today to see if I could return it but since it was past the return window, they were going to charge me return shipping and a 15% re-stocking fee. I am just going to take it off and throw it in the spare parts bin for a future build. Judging from the pictures, it looks like the 14.7" complete barrels have a retro style delta ring assembly, so that's a big plus for ones doing retro builds. Coupon codes LDD and M3P are both valid until May 31st, both codes gets you $10 off and free shipping. |

Anyone else ever notice how a perfectly good $119 complete barrel assembly ends up costing you $400 to make it as exact as you can without a SBR stamp? The stamp would bring it to $600... Hate this dam retro black rifle disease... |

I didn't need one but with that coupon code it was worth it.
Used it to build my pseudo A1/A4-ish mongrel: Attached File Attached File I like that it uses taper pins, but whoever did mine should've been paying more attention. The 'rear' pin is BARELY still on the FSB. There's maybe a millimeter from the edge to the hole and it looks like it wasn't even drilled straight. When I was knocking out the front one (to take off the handguard cap), the rear one actually came out on its own due to the vibration/force. Oh well it was cheap. Attached File Attached File |

My (4) 14.7" barrels (I got in yesterday) are packed and ready to ship to JT on Tuesday.
JT is going to pin and weld the A1 Muzzle devise for me. The plan is to do (2) each of the Model 653 and the 654 Ron I also got in (4) of the 16" barrels, but now I wish I had gotten the 11.5" barrels to do the moderator style. I have to decide if I want to have JT do them cut the barrels and pin & weld or just find some 11.5" barrels & have him pin and weld them. Decisions decisions need to be made. |

The taper pins on my barrels are nicely done… Plenty of meat left of the wider diameter end of the pin, I would have no reservations pressing them out and reinstalling (if that is your intention for ac custom build).
Nice barrels…. I am really looking forward to some range reports. They are a steal for the asking price, especially considering they arrive ready to install. |

Got my $40 check today. Yeah, I'm totally going to max out this benefit.
So like a couple of weeks ago I saw a RIA 1911 for like $334. Which of course would also have an FFL fee if I had it shipped. I could just go buy it local and then price-match to the sale price - I bet they don't consider FFL fees! Steve |

Sorry for the derail, but since we are talking about 1911s... :)
I don't think I'll buy another sub-$800 1911. I bought a Springfield Armory GI once and had never owned a gun that was not as accurate as I was. I discovered how poor it was after shooting a friend's Colt Series 70. Then last weekend I shot my Ruger P90, and then shot my friend's Sig Sauer. His was way more accurate. I was tempted on the $335 RIA though... Anyway I'm totally sold on the credit card price protection plan. Like you said - buy on convenience and then just use the price match to get the price you want. Steve |
