Grabbed a Colt SP1 at a somewhat local gun shop the other day.

The owner of the shop is a great guy and a good friend.

$1000 Out the Door.

I had a thread in GD, but some of the guys recommended I post here as well.

Here's a couple retro "just for fun" builds I've thrown together.

Top is a dissipator upper with rifle length tirangles - 3 prong hider - M16 grip - and A2 Entry type stock (RRA).

Bottom is a SBR on a DPMS lower - Short triangle handguard from PK Firearms - M16 Grip and same Entry length stock.  I plan on changing out the FGC pins and brake for a more traditional setup sometime.

We're going to need more photos.  BCG?  Buffer?

Man, for any SP1--let alone an early one--plus a US Colt scope...you stole that.
Congrats!

Stand-by.  I'm not at home - but it is in the truck.

I'll go snap some pics.

Here you go - hopefully this is what you're looking for.

What a weird buffer...  I was unfamiliar.  Looked like someone stuck a tiny German potato masher grenade in there.

Nice. Those buffers were discontinued from military delivery in Dec 1966, and they used up remaining stock in SP1s. What are the barrel markings between the FSB legs on the right side?

Back out to the truck...

Edit -

Only thing I see is a 12 stamped on the underside, near the muzzle end.

Edit again -  @Kalahnikid

I went back out after reading your post again -

There is an MP stamp on the right side.  I can't get a photo - it's dark outside and the flash washes it out.

The MP12 were the last marking put on barrels before they added chrome to the chamber in late 67.

Very cool find

Awesome.  Thanks.

I think I'm going to order a Colt Letter for this one.

Stolen for $1000. It's C&R now, or sometime this coming year, and could flip for up to double what you paid for it, if not more, at auction.

Most Colt scopes were made in Japan - your USA made one is among the first variants made before the Japanese ones and henceforth is pretty rare. Like $500+ rare IMO

edited to add: the scope by itself covers half of your investment for that rifle; you suck and we hate you

Thanks man.

I haven't shot it yet.  I need a nice sunny day to take it out.

Looks all correct for the time period. Those buffers were called "Edgewater" buffers. Last few I've seen go on eBay/GB have brought about $250. So leave it be!

IIRC they were replaced to reduce the cyclic rate of fire - I believe that was thought to contribute to the jamming problems before they figured out it was use of incorrect powder.

The barrel is correct as someone noted - if it isn't marked with a C then the bolt and carrier wouldn't have that either, and would be marked M and P on the bolt with nothing on the carrier.
- Colt was the sole manufacturer and didn't start marking with the C until contracts had been given to GM and H&R.
