I'm familiar with the Colt 733 but not so much the 933. Is it just an M4A1 with a 11.5" pencil (.625" OD) barrel?

Pretty much. I don't remember if it's FA or Burst though. The current semi - Commandos are the same specs I think - still a ltwt profile barrel. I love the 11.5" lightweight carbines.

The 933 was FA. They had A1 and A2 profile 11.5" barrels with 1/7 twist. The Model 935 was the same thing, but with 3-round burst.

Thanks for the replies!

Any idea what the proper markings are on the lower receiver? There's very few photos online and most of them are airsoft whilst the others are too low of a resolution to make out anything.

I know that these are labeled as a M4 Commando. I have seen pictures of some where it was marked M16A2 COMMANDO.

These were the best photos I could find, if somebody has better ones please do share. Looks like this one might have the M16A2 commando markings you mentioned, as well as the skinny "CAR-15" style hand guards.

Any idea when they were first produced and if they ever made it to any units?

From what I could find, the 933 has been in service since 1995 and is still used by some SOF units, but there is really no way to find out what number of them are still in service or which units are still using them.

I just bought 34 of them.

FA, pencil barrel.

Yes.

Although there are a several different Commandos, each has its own model designation based on its configuration.

Never did. All I had was the M16A1. This was back in 1978-84. We did not even have any Commando models at all in our armory.

Gotcha, I'm aware, I was just confused by the photo of a 733 when we were talking 933's. I'm assuming Osprey wanted to show clearer photos of the M16A2 COMMANDO roll marks.

Here's something I always wondered about: What's the model number for an A2 Commando? Is it still 733, or is it say, an 833?

The Model 733 came with A1, A1E1 (C7), and A2 type upper receivers. I built one based on the A2 upper receiver. Barrels were either the A1 or A2 profile and were 1/7 twist as these were part of the M16A2 series weapons.

Incorrect. The 733 did come in the A2 configuration towards the end of production. It was still a full-auto carbine. The 738, while in the same A2 configuration was different in that it had 3-round burst and a full-auto function. It was referred to as a M4 Commando Enhanced.

Do your homework? Nice. He's simply asking for info/photos that would corroborate what you're saying. People love the little details in this forum and you seem to be making statements as fact with nothing to back it up.

I know nothing about the 738 but like he mentioned I've never seen nor heard of a Colt 11.5" .750" barrel until you made your claim. Do you have any photos of these barrels with Colt marks? I'm not saying that I don't believe you, I'd genuinely like to see the pics because I'm interested in this stuff.

For years I'd heard people say that a Diemaco C8 was identical to a Colt 654. I'd tell them that wasn't the case, that a C8 had a .750" FSB but had a lightweight profile as I'd never seen one with a .625" FSB. Lo and behold a 1/7 14.5 lightweight with .625" FSB and Devtek markings surfaced proving me wrong. I've still never seen photos of the .625" in service but I must admit that now it seems likely.
