Well, that's cheaper than I thought.

Quote from the article, "With a focus on the collectors, the Colt M16A1 Reissue is about as original as you can get for a Retro M16A1 build. Although, it will cost around $2499 MSRP due to being a limited production item."

I might beg to differ.

So what happened to them rolling out a 602 first? It also begs the question did Colt make the barrel?  It looks like the FSB has had the flash removed as well.

Dayum nice looking peashooter!

For that price I'll happily build a few on my own!

It's more fun that way!

I would like to see all the projected to be produced rifles priced at that point. Unfortunately, I think the desirable carbines are going to be priced higher. On another note, all the grammatical errors in that article drive my OCD  nuts.

Well, I always like to build my own stuff, just because that's the fun part.  But it's still cool that they're doing it.  And that price is okay for a limited run...

LOL

I went through twenty plus pages of click bait on musclecars yesterday. The short articles were obviously written by someone with no automotive knowledge. It was full of things like "446 pack engine" in the Mopar sections and "3501 Cleveland" in the Ford sections.

I remember it was 1983 when I went with my dad to pick up his  Colt 603 for $800 or so and that included the $200 for the stamp.

No. M16A1 marked receivers were always full fence. Late production XM16E1 lowers were also full fence.

The rifle in the picture was sporting a type D stock? Would of thought Colt would of used a type E trap door on a M16A1. And I bet they also used the 3 prong flash hider instead of a M16A1 bird cage because it looked cooler. I do like that lower though! $2500 is steep, but they'll sell out quickly I bet since a limited run/edition.

Not to me, not for that price.

I have a better version minus the roll marks and for the price difference I would send off an 80%er to Braceman

Perhaps a factory SBR would be more interesting but not the rifles.

Yep. These are being produced by U.S. Ordnance just outside of Reno in McCarran, NV. They are being produced under license by Colt. This information was per a response by Steve Helzer, Sales and Marketing Vice President, US Ordnance, Inc. to an e-mail I sent a few weeks ago. Originally, U.S. Armament was to be doing them. They are acting as a liaison between Colt and U.S. Ordnance since they have done business with Colt in the past and U.S. Ordnance has not.

Probably worth getting one for the roll marked  lower and then parting the rest out to lessen the ouch...
However the serial number will probably be a dead giveaway.

If they sell A1 lowers for $400, I'd buy a few. I'm not paying that much for a damn rifle I can build myself.

Maybe this will put it in perspective. You know those commemorative firearms you see almost every month in the issue of American Rifleman, yeah, those...the ones that sell for stupid expensive? The ones with more crap engraved on them, the ones with medallions plastered al over them? Yeah, those!   I will venture a guess and say all of these proposed limited runs will sell like hot cakes. Hate to tell some of you guys, but there are A LOT of gun enthusiasts in this country that 2500 to several times that amount is no big deal.  I am not one of them. That kind of coin is a pretty major consideration for me. Looking forward to seeing what other models materialize.
I do believe this....Curtis will do whatever he can to make them as authentic as he can. I'm sure every decision is not his alone though. I wish them well.

Looks like a CH forge code upper on it. That's disappointing.

I doubt anyone will be pulling these down to sell for parts.

The "value" is in it's totality and will only bring a ROI if kept in the box for 30 years,

The contouring below the front pivot pin looks like this was made from an A2 lower and this does not look well done.

Aye carumba!!!! You're right.
It looks like a piss poor conversion of an A2 lower.
That's a deal breaker for me. I don't think that authentic looking rollmark is worth $2500.

Where are they getting the furniture for these things? The rifle in the article appears to have all new furniture.
Quite honestly, I'm more excited at the prospect of having a source of brand new type D stocks, A1 grips, and A1 hand guards.
I really hope those parts end up on the market by themselves at some point.

From the article it sounds like NOS parts Colt had. Each piece of furniture is referred to as being original or original production; not original style. In contrast, other parts, like the upper and lower, are mentioned as being made to A1 spec and the magazine is described as Vietnam style. It would make sense too as creating new molds would not be worth it for a limited production run item like this - probably why it appears to be reprofiled lowers. I hate being pessimistic, but I doubt this will lead to any new sources for A1 furniture.

And some of these will be parted out. Guaranteed. Some people don't give a second thought to limited production, rare, historical, etc. As long as the sum of their parts is worth more than the item as a whole, someone will be willing to part it out. Maybe not a lot will be parted out, but some will. Everyone should keep that in mind for the next couple years as you come across NOS Colt parts.

I think the uppers are NOS vs. new. Looks like a CH code in the pics. Anodizing also looks spot on for the 70/80's CH uppers.

Crazy pricing.

Even when Colt did their WW1 M1911 Reissue in Carbonia Blue, the price was $850. [that was what I paid from the dealer]

For $2500,  well, the last nice old Colt AR with no fence, stock door or F/A ran me $700. I'll keep the extra $1800, thank you very much.

The first models didn't have the trap door.  I guess they are trying to remain pure to the original as much as possible.  Price is not surprising, though, given the fact that Colt really doesn't make any firearms now.  Particularly as compared to 25 years or so ago.

I saw this a few days ago. The price was a shocker and there were some inaccuracies I noticed in the build itself that had me puzzled.

Not even made by Colt?  really?

At that price I'd expect that not to be the case.

I was thinking of getting both the carbine and the rifle, but will have to think twice now.
