Well, I did it.  I want to upgrade my 653 clone with a Colt chrome lined carbine barrel, but wanted 1/7 twist since I stocked up on MK 262 MOD1 77 grainers.  My 653 now has a Delton pencil, but it is 1/9, and accuracy falls off after 100 yards with the heavier bullets.

G&R tactical had NIW Colt 6420/6720 1/7 pencil barrels for $260 again, so I pulled the pin.  They are where I got my last one when I had the GAU build on a 601 lower a few years ago.

I built a tacticool, Magpulled, 1/7 mid length build for the MK262 ammo, but it is so much heavier than my 653.  I'll sell it for high dollar after the election.  ARs are already getting scarce in Nor-Cal between the election, and our pending gun ban on 1-1-2017.

Sounds good! It took G&R almost 1 year to get Colt barrels back in stock (they went up $10). I luckily found other Colt barrels on GB but paid for it. Do you plan on keeping the barrel 16", or cutting and pinning? My 653 is one of my favorites. Looking forward to pictures.

I will leave it 16" since I want all the velocity ai can get from my MK262 MOD1 ammo.  Just picked up a mint SP1 upper receiver (complete) for $200 on GB to go with it.  $200 is steep, but the photos do look minty.  That way I'll Have a Colt Barrel on a Colt upper.  The slick side 604 Fulton upper will stay on an A2 lower, keeping it 604.  The SP1 upper is XM grey, so I wil use the 601 lower from Nodak when it arrives, to make a SP1 Carbine clone.

I had an original Colt SP1 carbine I registered in out first AW ban in 1990, but I sold it when I went out on disability in 2000.  I am going to re-create that to register on this ban on 1-1-2017.  I'm not doing the aluminum stock, though, as I prefer the light weight of the Fiberite I have on my 653.

I guess I will sell the 653 upper (M16A1 upper with Delton 1/9 16 inch barrel) to a retro brother, since I won't need it.

Here's the SP1 upper to go with the 6420/6720 pencil barrel and Colt M16A1 BCG. It will really be sweet when I get the 601 lower from NDS.
