I really like this mix master AF rebuild.
And, I have almost all of the parts necessary  to pull it off (including a partial fence lower with M16 retro engraving)
I also cut down/threaded a SP1 carbine barrel to 14.75" long, and then, pinned/welded an A1 bird cage flash hider to it.

Two questions that I can't find info on for sure.
#1 flat or tapered slip ring?
#2 Would it have been crudely restamped GAU-5P on the lower receiver during the rebuild?

In most of the AF mixmaster carbine pics I've seen, they have a flat slip ring.

As for markings, maybe, maybe not

...also they are GUU 5P not GAU 5P

I'm building a 651 clone. FA upper partial fence lower, 14" barrel with fat washer and A1 FH and a rifle stock.
Flat delta ring. It's on a Tactics lower. Don't plan to go any further. Maybe one day on an 80% lower and engraved but not right now.

most would have had a flat slip ring i believe.  i did my GUU-5/P clone as a later rebuild with an m4 barrel.

this is how my lower is stamped

Thanks everyone for the help
Now, if I could just find a photo of a receiver stamped GAU-5P to confirm.
If anyone can find a photo, please post.

1iviper, I love the Anniston Army Depot initials stamped on the right side of the receiver

I'm thinking that an Air Force M16 rifle that had been rebuilt into a carbine would more that likely have been restamped.
Does that seem reasonable, from looking at other Air Force rebuilds?

Have seen quite a few GUU-5/P carbines in past years, seems like there have been every different variation, so I don't believe there is any "correct" GUU-5/P; they're all different from each other.

A+ this.   I've even seen one that had a commercial Non-U.S. Property marked  M-16 lower, 14.5" 1/7 twist pencil barrel, gen 2 stock. The GUU-5/P markings were below the ser # and the M-16 markings were still intact.

I carried a few GAU's and GUU's and none of them were the same.  You could have a skinny barrel with an A1 upper, A2 grip with an A2 flash hider and M4 butt stock.  One GAU I carried had an A1 grip, flat slip ring, A2 upper, the early two postion aluminum butt stock, M4 handguard, a no fence lower, and an M-4 barrel with an A1 flash hider.

It always seemed to me they just blindly grabbed at parts when they slapped them together over the years.

Can you remember how the GAU receivers were stamped?
Did they XXXX out the previous model number and had stamp GAU-5P?

As best I can remember the lower said Colt AR-15 then M-16 with GAU-5 stamped by it.  You could tell it was hand stamped, albeit poorly.  Some carbines had the the old info lined out and others were X'ed out.  I think one of the GAU's we had an Anniston Army Depot marking on it too.  I carried these things like 10-12 years ago so my memory is fuzzy.  But from what our armorers said they all were converted from M-16's in the 70's or 80's.  Once the M-4 came out these guns were turned in by 08 when I was active and then we got rid of our GAU's in the Air Guard in 10 or 11.

Thank you so much.
This is the kind of firsthand info that I have been looking for.

This build came together fast, because I changed directions, and robbed parts from another project.

I really like the looks of the partial fence lower.

CMP CHROME BORE barrel with C Bell marked FSB cut to 14.75" length, threaded, and bird cage pinned and welded.

I didn't add any wear to the lower receiver finish, because the 604 Upper Receiver is in almost unused condition.

Slightly better view of GAU-5P stamping.

Thanks,
In regards to the sling, should I keep the M1 type sling on it, or replace it with the latter black sling with the two H buckles be more correct?

Thanks to all for the kind compliments.
