My almost all original parts, minus gas tube and FCG (from an A1), just can't afford the correct fire control group right at this moment. Victor at US Anodizing absolutely nailed it with matching the color of the stuff sent to the original slip ring on the mint barrel I was able to find. This is hands down my finest retro and soon will be almost all original parts. Have to thank Boywonder as well for helping find molted no drain hole handguards that match the skinny grip and stock too. Just finished it up today again minus the FCG that Ill change later when I "find" some more money.

9-18-16 UPDATE** Couldn't stand it, went and bought the FCG from a member for it, now its done! First 3 pics are added after the original post.

I love that 80% lower. Man if I did mine like that it would be so darn close to the real deal it would be amazing. Just never did one before.

I couldn't take it any more...had to snag a FCG that's correct. Its like the crown on a king, Only the lower, springs-pins/detents and JT replica gas tube will not be original items now. Ya know how hard it was to find the good condition butt-stock sling attachment that WAS NOT plastic coated originally? Most of them rusted and pitted beyond the scope of this build. Or how about a skinny grip that still had some texture to it that was molted brown/black in color. THAT was a challenge as well.
The 80% was a no brainier I had JB profile and change allot of contours on this to match several pictures of original lowers so this had every small detail I could recreate. I was extraordinarily luck to find that museum quality barrel but it came with a price tag.  It was all worth it, and I cant wait to FINISH it with the FCG when it arrives.

NO! I only replaced the disconector with one from a semi auto that way there is no chance of burst happening. I will never modify the hammer since the weapon is incapible of having a sear installed, the interior pocket is semi milled. Stock is a molted C

OP......is your C stock proud of the receiver? It's hard to tell from the pictures. I seems a lot of C's including the one on my very early 604 are proud of the receiver.

It's all good I agree with your thoughts. I didn't think even the very early XM16E1s came with C stocks. I think they only came with Ds. Maybe I'm wrong.  Yep everything on mine is original except the lower. Even has a early carbon steel gas tube. Yah Lionel hooked me up with a real nice skinny black pistol grip a few years ago.

Im surprised the gas tube lasted this long, those usually rott away and fall apart by now. I can deal with some repro parts depending on what they are, but JT gas tube is way nice and fit VERY tightly in the gas block. Everything fits very tightly on this build. only the sling eyelets make noise flapping.

It hasn't rusted away yet. I learned something I didn't know. That they came with C stocks. Had to go buy one

Looks fantastic!

Did you do the lower from an 80%?

If so was it a reprofile or is it from NDS? Who did the engraving?

Does anyone know when the rubber coated sling point on the FSB came about?  Was that change implemented when they went from Cast to forged FSBs?

It's bad isn't it? Little details eat away at you until they're correct.

Was this lower an 80% NDS?

That looks outstanding. Those old trigger group feel a lot different than the newer ones. The pull is a lot smoother!

Ya it is an AWESOME trigger, no creep and crisp release. Not a typical GI trigger even the M16A1 groups I have kinda suck.
