I have not been able to make any headway on purchasing a stock or hardware to make a stock so I am going to attempt to make one from scratch. I have a lathe and drill/mill machine and the tenacity to run them. Other than web pics I have collected  I have no 1st person experience with these hen's teeth.

Hopefully those who have a stock can help me with a couple of questions.

Anyone close to Tallahasse Fl willing to meet me so I can physically look their stock over?

I know the receiver extension is alluminum but is the lower rod and slide tube aluminim or steel or a combo of the two?

Many thanks

Not to discourage a DIY project but there is a member here that makes excellent reproductions if you're interested. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I donno, they both look pretty darn nice as far as I can tell. Here's Matt's own comparison of the TSI vs his:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSWtktiBQKY&feature=share

The TSI is up over $500 already. What does Matt get for his? is there a back order?

The TSI stock in that video is mine, and there are some similarities and differences between the two. Ill let Matt chime in if he wants on what specifically the closest similarity by measurement.

I will say that if I was just getting into retro I would much rather one of Matt's for reasons that are obvious in the video; such as overall fit, finish, selection of stock bodies, filler around the buttplate, "correct" looking screws, and more correct buttplate diameters. Also, Im not sure if he mentions it in the video but apparently the sling swivel is extremely difficult to drill without damaging the stock and I believe Matt eventually found a way to do it. In comparison my TSI stock has a hairline crack in the area even though its never been installed or had a sling on it. (Nor will I ever put a sling on it for this reason)

But......I paid less than $400 for my TSI stock years ago so it'll do

I have one that Stoner25 made for me. There are less of them out there, but it is a great example of a correct 607 stock. All of us that are lucky enough to have any of the examples that have been made by any of the members here are in good shape.

I have been collecting and archiving every installation/build doc I could get my hands on in researching these.

Since I am in line with Matt that is where I will stay and after seeing all that I have seen I am not going to go commando on this but get a little help from a friend (Matt)

Aww man I knew this would eventually come around, thats one of the reasons I made that video among others. TSI, Stoner, and Pan all did a great job and I admire their work and skills.

In fact, and I know I've said it before in other posts, but If it hadn't been for the folks before me and their versions and advice, WE wouldn't have the version I currently make. I have talked either in email or on the phone to most of the other fellas, and like Travis I collected all the inter webs had to offer as far as advice. Thats kinda why I started the youtube channel and the Facebook page.... to share info. Believe me when I say it doesn't scratch the surface. Making one of these is something, but making more than one is a whole different animal. It took me months to get my fixtures and jigs done right, and I am still fine tuning them a year later. This is a hobby and is supposed to be fun. I like others just found myself a nitch to be able to afford to enjoy it and help others do the same.

Im not the first nor the last and, won't be the best I'm sure. I think that can only be judged by the end user and that criteria varies greatly as the below pics show. In fact a portion of the guys that want these could care less about a retro clone and just want a cool stock that functions and will hold up. We all want something different. Some are fine with close, some need exact, some need bolt on, thread, pinned etc, some have deep pockets and some don't. Some want to build their own ad some don't.

Basically if it wasn't for cool guys like Louis, Mark, and Tom and others who have done this before and helped with ideas and info. The one I offer wouldn't be here. Thats a fact.  Big thanks to all of them for their help whether they knew they gave it to me or not! Like you hear a lot around here. build it like you want, and if all else fails call it a GUU or AF604

AR15Sport sells a set of repro triangle carbine hand guards. I'm pretty sure they're designed to fit the standard triangle end cap.

No idea of the quality.

All but the very earliest 607's use the front half of cut down rifle hg's, along with a fabbed rear cap. You can probably get a nice/correct rear cap from heatNbeat, and cut a set of rifle hg's.
The  "aftermarket"  hg's for 607's generally are not correct unless you are building an early prototype. They fit a regular slip ring and front cap.......which I suppose makes them incorrect for even an early proto.
Contact heatNbeat. He can get you headed in the right direction.

Matts stocks are a work of art. I love the fact that the guide rods are (can be) threaded and pinned, just like the O.G.'s. Thanks again to all the dudes out there who've contributed their knowledge and skills to allow these stocks to be reproduced for suckers like me.

OP, good luck with the stock sir.
