Drive anyone else crazy to see it?

Or, is it just my OCD kicking in?

Or, maybe I'm doing it wrong and only mine tilt.

I noticed this when cleaning my upper a few days ago! Thought I had installed something wrong lol

I'd have to see a pic....nothing is tilted on mine

I'll take a picture.

The detent pushes the bottom of the drum away from the receiver a wee bit.

This was closest to me. It's a NOS Colt stripped 9mm upper I bought recently.

The sight in the pic has an XS aperture and a NODAK drum, the rest is new GI parts.

I can hear the arfcom chorus telling me it's my cheap after market parts.

But I've never sen an A1 that didn't do it.

It's canted, not tilted...

Just enlargen the detent holes in the drum a bit.  Use a reamer or the next larger bit size.

I remember reading the part description and notes in one of the vendor's site about new A1 parts and there was a note that said "final fitting and finishing may be necessary".

Maybe this will help you.

Come 'on Peachy... Thats nothing.
My 603 windage drum rubs the upper. KISS and shoot the darn thing.

If were worried about ocd & looks, that blue paint on the used ALG v2 must be driving you bananas.
I'd be happy to provide relief, and swap you HGs

The problem is more likely holes being too big. Not too small. More specific the large hole in the windage drum.
Or even the hole through the carry handle. Rotate the windage drum so the roll pin is in line with the detent. (Up and down)
Is it still tilted ( canted). If no, than its the big hole in the windage drum.
If yes than its the hole through the carry handle. Or maybe the surface of the carry handle is just not flat or parallel
Which will make the drum look canted.

I tried that. Make the hole in the drum large enough and the detent and spring fly out.

No more problem!

Lucky for me, along with my OCD I have extreme laziness.

I'd rather bitch about a thing than get off my ass and fix it.

It's obvious that the clearance fit between the windage screw and the drum allows some cant. Got nothing to do with the detent holes, etc.

It has occurred to me that if I really gave a shit I could clip a coil off the spring and see if it makes any difference.

Fortunately my proclivity to procrastination compels me to ignore it.

Except for complaining about it on arfcom

I've made some aluminum shims that fit behind the a1 drum to make it a tight fit.
However I'm sure recoil and the spring will keep it there.  I just like it to be solid.

I'm sure all sights are apt to be like this.

On a side note I noticed that DPMS appears to have recently discontinued all of their retro A1 parts. They were one of the few companies still offering A1 rear sight parts and things like 3-prong flash hiders. Funny how they go and do that just as the retro craze starts catching on like wildfire.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they haven't made any new parts in years, but were just sitting on a stockpile of stuff that's now running out.

I'd bet grondike is correct. If Midway and Brownells get enough customer demand we'll see someone step into the gap.

NODAK would be a natural (hint, hint).

LOL ... Don't feel bad.  The laziness is often contagious.

Then forego reaming the drum and take an emory board and lightly go around the detent until it's reduced in diameter a little.  You can do a little at a time gradually.  See if that won't help.

About a year or so ago I bought a set (or almost a full set) from Midway that I think were Olympic Arms parts.  This is where the disclaimer was that I mentioned above.  I mounted it on a C7/C8 upper and had no problems.

Check GunBroker for some Colt originals.  They pop up from time to time.
