Ive had a 20ga for a long time, ive been wanting  a 12 ga for a while.

While at cabelas i found 2 used ones. One made in 1957 and one made in 1938. Couldn't decide which to get so i bought both. Unfortunately the earlier one has had the barrel shortened by 2". Not sure what im going to do with them.

Model 37s are great shotguns for sure!  Since you have two, you use one of them to make one of these.

The non-engraved receiver would probably be better.  That is your barrel clamp.  It worked out great!

How much did you pay for them?
Must have been cheap if you bought both.

$470 for both. Not bad, not great.

I picked up a well used Remington Model 10 that would make for a great retro military shotgun .

I myself am a big Ithaca Model 37 fan also owning "a few". The 1938 with 2" shortened barrel is now 28", 26" or 24"? If it's 28" or 26" leave it alone. 24" I'd send it off to Les @ Diamond Gunsmithing and have it shortened to 16" and cylinder bored for a home defense shotgun. Or, add a Polychoke which was the craze back in the 50's/60's for adjustable chokes. Nice find.......

I would offer a opinion n to cut the one that has already been shortened to 18" or 20" for Riot configuration unless you like them as-is (they are nice as is).  A nice light shotgun for those who don't like a heavy gun.

There were game scene engraved police and military Ithaca's so its not un-authentic to use one in a replica build.

For what the new Ithaca's cost, you got them for a tiny fraction the cost of new ones and in my opinion the originals are better. and nicer fit & finishing on parts.  The patina, adds great character.  good deal!  Enjoy them.

The barrel is cut from 28 to 26.

The older one has a very tight action. Almost feels new. I really hate to take a functioning gun and alter it, i bought the two and thought it would be easier then to do a trench gun.

Im going to build parkerizing tanks, maybe then ill change my mind.

I would not let the engraved receiver stop you. Ithaca delivered guns both with and without the engraving .

I believe  they teamed up with Ithaca to make the M37 trench gun again.  I  have a police trade in M37 and would love to turn in to trench version,  but hate to cut the shell tube down.

New ones are cast instead of forged and can't slam fire.

Another John Browning design.

They're everywhere, even after all these years.

None of the ones pictured are a trench gun? I'd much prefer a M1897 Trench Gun, if only we could import the Norinco ones again. Those had slam-firing, hell they came WITH a repro M1917 bayonet.
