I read a lot here about Colt grey. I even bought a grey Colt A2 upper in EE for a build, will try to match the lower. What's the story on Colt grey? Did they only use it through a certain time period? Certain models? Only military or only civilian? I'm curious about the backstory of why/when they used grey instead of black. Any info appreciated.

I too would like to know why - My best guess after talking with some of my peers and collectors was it resembled the prevalent and established parkerized finishes but I'd like to know what the real story is.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and Mike from NDS gave this Answer

Thanks. I'm curious about what years it was used too. Any ideas?
