When did Colt start putting the silent sling on the SP1 rifles?

Sorry, Are Colt Sp1 rifles no longer considered retro? Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I'm asking what year did Colt stop using the early Sp1 sling which is similar to the Colt 601 sling (but black) and start using the Silent sling as factory accessory?

Yea, I thought it was a legit Retro question too.

The best I could recall was early 70's.  At least when the cheapo silents showed up.  I believe I've seen some NIP with 1971 dates.

I have no info on the silent sling.

here's the sling from my NIB '65 SP1.  it's the early style.  i'll look at my later SP1 to check what sling came with it but there's about a 20 year jump btw them.

The sling on my '64 SP-1 looks like the one in boywonder's post.

I have an SP-1 from 1972 that has a silent sling. It has its original box, magazines with the 5-round blocks etc. so I assume the sling is original - but anything's possible.

I do know that the SP-1 I bought new in about 1980 did come with a silent sling.

In 1974 in basic training, some of our M16A1s had silent, some had green "seatbelt" slings, and some had OD green canvas M1 slings.
