Ok guys , I'm getting to the point in my build where NFA paperwork has been sent off, I have most parts but am still missing some key pieces. One of those pieces is information. I want this rifle to work as good as anything modern and I've got some changes in mind under the hood. I've already put in a SSAE trigger.

First , what is a good gas port size for a 10" barrel? I've seen sever different sizes mentioned in older threads and I think I have it narrowed down to .093 but if I'm off base here please correct me.

Second, ( this is where I really deviat from retro ) I'm planning on using a LaFrance twin gas tube set up to help with reliable extraction, especially in cold weather, I'm from Alaska originally and want something to carry around while I'm out and about. Should i order the LaFrance buffer or should the twin gas tube set up slow down the action enough that I should be able to get by with a carbine buffer ?

Here she is in all of its so far glory ( waiting for this stamp is killing me ) but does give me time to plan the rest of this thing out.

It'll be a little bigger than .070". That's a 10.5 gas port that also handles a can.

Colt used .063" for 14.5" barrels, .081" for 11.5" barrels, and .093" for 10.5" barrels. My 10" port is at .078" and seems to run perfect. You might want to experiment to fine tune your carbine.

This, i like showing this one off. 10" with fake mod. Works great. Even in full auto.

That list that's floating around is wrong.

I have .093 on my 607 10.5 clone and .083 on my 10.5 Noveske barreled SBR which has an adjustable gas port upper receiver, I run a can on it sometimes. Both work fine. Both use an H2 buffer.

Try an X buffer in them suppressed.

I have several 10 and 10.3 uppers. A couple of them are Daniel Defense factory barrels at .082 port size. .082 is PLENTY large enough to run junk ammo. .078 would run all good ammo easily. M855, 193, good commercial ammo. Probably wouldn't reliably run Tula or other cheap chit.
Much has been learned about making 10" uppers run since the inception of the MK18 program. Genuine Colt/Crane Mk18's and CQBR have .072 ports, but they will ALWAYS be using good 5.56 ammo, and often suppressed. When I run suppressed I use a .048 port.
