Picked up a 3 flat buffer with no roll pin from member teamafx. Possibly not colt. He said the original full round no roll pin had pressed in bumpers with no serrations on the inside.

So I was looking at the pictures and Lafrance buffers are full round and marked "LS" on the face. KNS sells them .

anyone ever pull a non pinned bumper? Having a hell of a time getting one out. Tried rolling it on a table, pliers, knife, freezing it. If i cant get it tonight, its going in liquid nitrogen in the morning.

Just need the ID dimensions and should be ready to make some.

I can't remember what size I used for the ID off hand. Maybe a 64 Th bigger than the weights I ordered.
Looks like the old eyeball got pretty close on the first one. It doesn't look to good though next to the real deal as far as accuracy. |

Was it free to move some or fixed? As long as there is some movement it should perform as intended by stoner. The solid weight was probably a product of trying to moderate bolt speed with the shorter barrel.

From the archives tgus's original 639 buffer.
https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=123&t=421824 |

First two pics are from tgus's 639 export model XM177E2.
XM177E2 MANUAL ON PDF Well even the non pinned ones had 3 pieces hence the name 3 peice buffer. 1. Body 2. Weight 3. The bumper. Also depending on subcontractor they could be pinned or not pinned. They also had 1 rubber disc. Bumper colors also varied with subcontractor. Obviously they were made on a lathe as well. Some were anodized the bronze color and others silver. One in the 1967 manual is pinned. |

So I think the research you are doing is pretty cool BROvet04. Since I kinda got wrapped up in this I have noticed how much info is NOT on the inter webs about this little part of retro carbines. I myself never paid much attention to the carbine buffers, or buffers in general until I started messing with the Delrin/Acetate repros. .
One thing I did notice in the tech diagram and the Auction pics, both appear to have a punch mark dead center of the buffer face. I am going to measure that buffer this week. As far as the weight movement, it seemed there was less movement than the 3 weight one for sure. the calipers will tell the story though. I did buy this when I was in the city the other day |

i got .563 ID 2.660 deep. With grooves cut on the inside.
I gotta believe the originals didnt have this groove. Mine spent 25 minutes submerged in liquid nitrogen and still would not come apart. I had to drill the bumper off. |
