Sweet find, they make handy little lightweight, long sight radius shooters.

Hmm...prototype dissipator!
Must now be built!

See any markings on the barrel at all?

Looks like an Olympic Arms cast to me. Even if it is you have a good score. Now, if you remove the side mount an find a 14 stamp on the barrel I'll cry

I've seen their .750s, but did Oly make a cast .625?  What do you see here that makes you think this one is an Oly?

Nice.  That's one of the cleanest VP stamps I've seen on a barrel.

Olympic made tons of .625 back in the day. I thought the OPs was Oly because it looked to clean (black color) an the pins looked it. I'm glad the barrel wasn't stamped 14.

I'm not an expert but judging from pics I've seen here and my two early Colt barrels, VP12's seemed to have a centered VP stamp like the OPs here, and the 1/14 barrels had the VP stamp between the legs at random. My 601 barrel VP stamp is at about 5 o'clock, lightly stamped, with some chatter.

My VP12 barrel stamp looks like the one OP has, 3 o'clock and a good stamp.

No.  That small VP is the only mark on the barrel.
Due to the serial number of the rifle and all external characteristics of the barrel, I am convinced it was Winchester-manufactured, but the VP indicates it was tested by Colt.

Yeah,  it's an early rifle sounds like. Any winchester marks at all?

We should start a 601 barrel thread,  I enjoy seeing all the variations people find

We started a thread a couple years ago, but it appears some of the photo links are broken.  Some useful info still there, though.
