yep, all sp1s were slicksides.  it's either a sporter upper with the large hole or they are running an adapter pin to use a small hole upper on a large hole lower.

Yes, it looks like a square forge upper receiver so it could be a nice mix of parts.

I was texting back and forth with that guy. Looks like an earlier 603 upper with a gm barrel/fsb.

Possibly an Early 603 with the rebated front lug drilled out to fit the large SP1 pivot pin?  I know the diameter of the rebated part of the pivot pin hole is the same size as the SP1 large pin, making it possible to drill the narrow end out to SP1 diameter.

I did this to an old 604 upper to repair a SP1 carbine that had a broken upper.  The gun was in a trunk of a cruiser that was involved in a crash. The upper  was pulverized and the buffer tube broke off clean from the lower, but somehow the lower was undamaged.
