1965 604, 1966 XM16E1, 1969 604, late 70's M16A1, and one A1 kit morphed into a late 70's 653 project. Sounds like I'll have a Nodak partial fence lower pretty soon. Looking forward to putting her together!

The XM16E1 is done.  The only issue I have with it so far is I have to use a rubber mallet to push the rear take down pin in or out. It is tight on my early 604 upper and perfect with my A1 upper. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Perhaps it's an appropriate fit on the version that gave the type such a bad rep. Anyhow,  here she is.

Next build will be my early 604. Need to find a edgewater buffer, chrome 604 bcg and a dimpled selector switch.

from nodak spud

A WORD ABOUT THE FIT OF OUR LOWER RECEIVERS:

OUR LOWERS ARE MACHINED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY HAVE A TIGHTER FIT TO MOST UPPERS.

WE RUN ON THE HIGH SIDE OF THE TOLERANCE,  WE DID THIS ON PURPOSE.

99% OF THE TIME IT RESULTS IN A GREAT FIT WITH NO WIGGLE BETWEEN THE UPPER AND LOWER.

it should work itself in and be easier to removed after shooting it some.

A nice 602 upper assembly and it's yours. You'll have to pick it up though.

My XM16E1 build is hard to take down as well. I keep a chopstick and a little hammer around to start things (benefit to being married to a Korean-we always have chopsticks). I expect it will loosen up over time. Love the look of the rifle Cal30M1!!!!

Yep -  chopsticks for me too!

Another trick on my tighter fit ones (thank you NDS - I do prefer them that way) is to hold the rifle in such a way that my grip squeezes the lower and upper together.  Just a little squeeze pressure and the pin pops out using my other hand just like it should.
