This is my essay of an early 604 assembled with a 601 charging handle and muzzle device which were found behind the colt factory work bench (in fake history).  The only GI parts are stock, grip and hand  guards.  The bolt assy is Young Mfg. SP1 chrome M16.
I know the trigger ain't proper, but I didn't want a shitty press and went for the best, the SSA-E.
This thing started in Jan '09 when I got the receivers and charging handle from Nodak.  Due to many things and other rifles I HAD to buy it has taken until now for fruition.  Thanks to Nodak, AR15sport, Numrich, Young Mfg, John Thomas' Retro Arms Works, AIM, and DSA.

(Edited to fix errors)

Nice build.  I'd take an "incorrect" SSA-E over a crappy GI any day if I were going to use the rifle as a shooter, as compared to a safe queen.

Bbl is from ar15sport.com.  1/9 non-chrome. I just did the final assy  today.  When I get  shooting, I'll post.  I expect it'll be fairly well due to the quality of the parts I used.

That's nice - you did a great job.  I like the (fake) history of the parts, too!

From what I've read, Colt always used up all parts.  Even if said parts had been phased out and a (double?) secret stash had been (re)discovered at a much later date.

You are one patient fella. (I have a couple builds from 2009 still in limbo ).

NICE result. Looks real sweet.

Really nice.  I hope my 602 build turns out that nice.  Cant blame you for swaping the trigger

This. Beautiful build! The 604 is one of my favorites. Never should have sold mine...even if I did sell it to a Vietnam Vet.

SmegHead. BEAUTIFUL BUILD BROTHER..  I love Slick-Sides.

And I don't care one rat's ass about your trigger selection, in fact, I wish I had the cash to put those triggers in all my rifles.

I'm one of the biggest fans of the earlier 604's and love the different configs. You did a very good build, any plans to revamp it using correct parts? Or basically using it as a blaster and not worrying about busting expensive unobtainable pieces.????

I was thinking the same thing. SP1 with a early duckbill and an aftermarket carrier.

My original idea was a clone of Schwarzenegger's M16 in Predator.  Then it changed.  I just live slick siders ever since that movie.  I'm going to keep it as it is since I'm already (sort of) afraid to shoot my M1A with GI parts.  Sigh.
