Hello all. I am Mike from Germany. I had written about my project six months ago:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_123/651658_My_Colt_M651_project__maybe_someone_can_help_with_missing_part_.html

Most important: it is a deact. The barrel is drilled and blocked, the chanber is blocked, the bolt cut down.

As I am in Germany owning such deacts is legal. Getting a working Colt AR-15 is not easy so I decided to go with a deact to add a real Colt to my collection.

I would like to make a M16A1 M651 Carbine (the one Barnes was using in "Platoon"). I have tried to find the proper sliding 2 position buttstock for months now ...

I know they are hard to find and very expensive, but maybe someone can help.

I will need the 2-position receiver extension, the vinyl acetate stock, spring, buffer, receiver plate, and (old style) castle nut.

Right now I am using chinese made hand guards. So if anyone can help with real Colt 6 hole carbine handguards, just let me know.

I have a friend in Iowa who would help with forwarding parts.

Let me know if you would like to see more pics.

Try prowling the Equipment Exchange, I've seen some for sale there this last week. Good luck with your project!

The real deal would be great. As it is an all Colt carbine I would love to add a Colt stock assy. Anyway I doubt if I will be able to find one, so it is sure good to know about repros. It is very hard for me to find such parts here in Germany ...

I've got an original 2 position COLT CAR buffer tube ($125.00) and original correct castle nut ($30.00).

Let me know if interested.

They are not cheap but here's the handguards.

The stocks are not really hard to find, but you will normally have to pay up for it.
You need to watch Gunbroker, the EE here, even Sturmgewhr, that's where I got my last one. It wasn't cheap but it was nice.
Also if you find a stock by itself, Nodak has the correct style tube and early castle nut.
Good luck on your search.

Take your time before you buy and compare the details of one fiberlite or aluminum stock to another. Some of the differences are subtle and some not so subtle. A lot of repros have very squared off sling loops (on top). The area that the latch plunger passes through underneath should be a vertical cylinder on the fiberlites rather than a fat box, and a narrow box on the aluminums. etc..  It may bug you later if you make an impulse buy and then notice these things.

Essential Arms aluminum repros are about the best around.

Many have a hard time spending vinyl coins on a real deal carbine piece.  The thoughts of spending those coins on a deact is very retro commendable.

Think I'd try and find a complete unit as individual parts and shipping would probably approach a record spend that would be hard to break.  Hardly know the ever changing laws in US much less abroad.  Nothing in Italy?  Trade some high quality German mfg parts possibly.

I know when I lived in UK 30 years ago most couldn't believe I owned functioning guns.  I believe all the bases have been covered for an individual search.  Possibly someone looking to sell will read post and contact.

Here it's a simple manor of having the coins although Clinton ban was very unfriendly to collapsible stocks if memory serves.  Now it's the ammo and one has a much better chance of getting killed with a brick or by an idiot driving while talking on a cell phone than a M-855 bullet.  Good luck.

Kwais Allah!  Do no one know how to hotlink anymore?

I'm doing this for OP, the rest of you lot are on your own:

OP, also, you'll need to check into ITAR before your friend ships you a stock.  Rifle stocks tend to be ITAR controlled.

I want to thank you all for your friendly and helpful input. I really appreciate that.

I had expected much harsher comments bothering you with a deact ...

No trouble at all brother.  Some of the best threads in the retro forum have been when a citizen of Germany/Italy/Belgium have posted up pics of the M16's that you guys can have. Your demil/dewat rules are so much different than ours.........where some of you can have the complete unmolested lower and deactivate the firearm by other means.
