Any of you guys with milling expertise tried this? Or know of anyone capable?

This is a thought for a C7 upper.

Coincidence! I have just bought a flat-top upper in the white for that very purpose for my next project. I am going to take off the bump myself and have the upper/carryhandle/lower set anodized Colt gray (its a removable A-1 carry handle).

Please tell me your not going to mill the bump off a Colt C7 style upper?

Someone pointed out to me that 9mm uppers can be had w/o the bump, then a gas port and cam pin recess added much easier. Just a thought.

Now why would anyone want to mill the bump off an A2FS upper?

Thinking about an early M16A1E1 prototype clone, before the bump was added

Interesting.  Never seen an A2 upper without a bump.

True, but you don't get a forward assist.

About a year ago Boywonder77 and John Thomas were posting some pics of the M16A1E1 collection at Rock Island Arsenal that I saved to my desktop. The non bump A2 upper with rear sight window is about the only A2 upper I personally find interesting.

Oh and the camo pattern on one was amazing too. The thread was titled M16A1E1 Build Guidance if anyone is interested in seeing the pics of what I have in mind.

you can get a 9mm A2 and it doesn't have the bump, but no FA. Forgot about that.

If I build it I will probably try to get close to the camo pattern on the bottom rifle

My RRA 9mm upper came with the cam pin area already milled.

I used a RRA 9mm upper for my superlight build, I ended up with a 14.5" BM Superlight barrel, 2 position fiberlite stock, standardBM E2S lower with standard LPK, Semi auto, BCG, CH, CAR HG's, etc. Build came in a 4 lbs 14.65ozs.Weighted just about 5 lbs with an empty  30 round mag, and 5 lbs with a 20 round Pmag with 10 rounds.

Huh, those epoxied-on bumps are kinds interesting.  Neat to see how the engineers at Colt tested new ideas like that.
