I have had an SBR around for a while - you may remember this one....

It has always bugged me that the barrel was 10.5" (it was a good deal on a short Colt barrel that had been chopped at ADCO and I decided I wanted this instead...

So, using the NoDak BFPU lower as a base, I started scrounging for parts.  Got the A1 receiver here in the EE, as well as most of the small parts, the slip ring came from Dean in IL on Sturmgewehr.  I picked through gun show part bins and selected the worst looking stuff for this build.

I then sent the barrel of to John Thomas, he chopped and threaded to 10.0" and weathered  the barrel and flash suppressor to match the rest of the weapon.

I still need to pick which rear sight assembly to go on it, but here is where it stands after getting the barrel back from John Thomas (Mailed it out on a Thursday, got it back on Tuesday).

Aside from the lower and the barrel, everything else is natural wear.

Very nice!  look forward to a range report.

The wear looks great - although that stock looks a little too nice, could just be the picture.
If its too nice let me know and I can swap it for my rougher one!

Damn, that's nice!
I've avoided SBRs just to simplify life, but that one is enough to make a guy reconsider!

The 607 is the one gnawing on me!

But thankfully for my wallet's sake it turns my stomach to have to PAY Uncle Sugar for the PRIVILEGE!

That's fantastic, the XM177E1 is my favorite CAR15 variant.

I think it's major BS to pay $200.00 to Uncle Sugar for the privilege of having a slightly shorter barrel or a sound suppressor for that matter. John Dillinger and those other idiots ruined it for the rest of us.

Very nice build. John Thomas does very nice work to boot.

Sweet build, and great work by JT. Shorty retros rule.

FIFY  FDR, his bootlicking Congress, and his rubber stamp Supreme Court ruined it for the rest of us, along w/ every President, Congress, & Supreme Court since.

OP, from the pictures, I confess I know not what you did, other than apparently remove 1/2" of bbl?

To some, 1/2" makes all the difference.

The biggest thing was replacing the A1 upper in the original pic with one I bought from Charleston in the EE.  Then I decided the barrel neated to be "worn" as well as chopped.

When I hit the lotto, I am getting you lot some pristine Krag rifles and some pics of Krag carbines in the Spanish-American War & Boxer Rebellion.  And then I'm posting the results in the C&R forum.

now you have to put some ware on that rare colt stock if you can stand to beat it up a little.

Very nice! Can I Ask how much you paid for the barrel chop? I need my 16" chopped down to 10" for my XM clone.

That turned out really nice, if I ever SBR it will have to be 10"

Very nice.  You'll have to keep an eye out for one of those aluminum stocks that are worn out with the coating scraped through.  Would match nice with the other wear.

Excellent! Appreciate your attention to detail. Plus, you can throw a moderator on there and it'll look right...

Can someone tell me what/who's stock that is? It's not a Colt aluminum, is it?

Car stock, Fiberite/Fiberlite, etc.

The one on the M16 is what appears to be an aluminum one though

Fiberlite. It has the little gussets. I assume it's a Colt.

Ok, installed the rear sight assembly and added some detail pics.  Now off to the range tomorrow (my back yard) to get it zeroed.

I'm glad this one is finally finished!

I don't have the balls either - but you get one or two really worn parts that look out of place and pretty soon you're buying all the beat-up stuff you can find.

I've been burning up the 10" barrels for 35 years, part of the reason I can't hear shit...

I've found a cure for it now that I've gotten older and wiser...
