I got tired of seeing the fsb in the picture, Its a generic lw non-chrome lined barrel. And yes those are original colt handguards, they were like that when I bought them.

nifty - where did you get the flattop A1 upper?

I like the concept, though I would have kept the FSB and use a SUSAT for the optic.

I had the deflector milled off a standard upper. That is a 2 3/4X scope with a T-post reticle, which is perfect for what I use it for. I wouldn't mind some type of Acog type 3.5 or 4X scope.

Got it, thanks, thought I was done making builds, looks like one more needs to be made :)

That turned out pretty nice. Altho I am not a fan of flat top uppers, yours definitely looks kinda retro. And it got the little wheels in my head turning. I have a Colt A2 that the EJ cover won't stay closed, so it can't hurt to customize it a bit.

I like it. Really like the "A1" flat top. The A3 usually looks a little busy on the right side with the FA and Brunton Bump. You uncluttered it. Rifle stocked carbine, flatty, scope w/ 16" pencil. What's not to like?

I've been wanting to do a rifle for some time like Coldblue has in his video, but the carbine version is pretty damn cool! Definitely a mid-late '80s vibe.

Thanks, it was the easiest "build" I have ever done.

Used my extra SP1, a 601 carrier I had laying around, a NoDak charging handle and mag, a John Thomas duckbill, a grenade ring from Sarco and some painted furniture from the EE. I vowed I would never attempt a 601 build but this just seemed like the right thing to do and no actual 601 parts were harmed or used other than the bolt carrier.

I kept all the original parts so I can put it back to stock but now I need to sell off the rest of my 601 parts before I decide to do a real build! The other two started out as parts box builds and a "I wonder what kind of retroish I can make with this?"

Where is this coldblue video?

Coldblue posted a link to it awhile back - August I think. It's a video on the M16A2, which is through the museum - should be on Youtube. About 1/3 of the way through there's a pic of a flattop rifle with chopped FSB and STANAG scope. I asked him about it and IIRC he posted a pic in that thread, so if you can find it...I don't remember if it was originally coldblue's thread or mine, but there's a link to the M16A2 video in one of our threads. The pic is of him and his NCOIC at the range. Hope this helped.

That's it! For some reason, I really want to build a DMR like that. It's in the works...but no STANAG mount...I don't think. Gotta get these books out first. Been getting very little sleep lately - something on the roof every night. Gotta take care of that today...

ETA: Coldblue - that is a cut-down upper with a rail installed correct? Oh, and don't think we don't notice the Mp5, the empty mags and the carbine sticking out of that bag either...
